ive been smoking for the last 7 years every day.. Since we found out we are having a baby I've gone cold turkey the last few days and felt the most crappiest ever, I'm having a hard time eating and have been feeling extremely nauseous. My appetite is gone and the I feel like the only time I can eat is when I smoke. Any advice anyone?

  • I've stopped I haven't done anything since we found out. Thank you we will talk to our doctor
  • I think you sound like you're pregnant, and it isn't (entirely) related to not smoking. Honestly, I'm not for pot either way but that's a choice you make, though clearly you know it's not good for baby or you wouldn't have stopped. I'd say just enjoy the crappy pregnancy symptoms and wishing you a happy healthy pregnancy and baby!

  • I personally stopped when I found out I was pregnant. It gets easier!
  • Honestly, my doctor told me he has no problem with it, other than the fact that it's illegal in my state. But he also commented to me that he believes, from a medical standpoint, that it will be legal in all 50 states within the next 3-5 years. He says he has treated women who have severe nausea during pregnancy with prescriptions and they turned out doing more harm than good (such as Zofran giving babies cleft palates or heart problems), but leaving the nausea untreated also meant these particular patients were unable to eat or take prenatal vitamins, which lead to other issues for mother and baby. Talk it over with your doctor, most of them have done their research and know what works for you. Hoping for the best for you!
  • Hello,
how could do this. Smoking is always harmful to your baby health. Discourage smoking even after the birth of the baby for a minimum of six months. In the womb, the developing child will get the constructive thinking about the mother, and sequentially will turn out to be a positive person. In the event that you avoid focusing on or stressing yourself, your child will be somebody as per your considerations amid the entire pregnancy.

  • I stopped smoking when I found out I was only 8 weeks pregnant and the first two weeks were the most difficult for me. I felt nauseated I didn't want to eat and I couldn't sleep I didn't want to take the nausea medication due to it giving babies birth defects so I just went cold turkey I would force myself to eat and I would walk a lot to make myself tired so that I could sleep because when I stop smoking I had the worst insomnia my appetite was completely gone I'm now full term 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant I haven't smoked since the day I found out I was pregnant it gets so much easier it's just those first two weeks feel like hell but believe me you can do it keep your mind focused on what's right for your baby I know some women stay smoking or using while they're pregnant but you don't want there to be any side effects to your baby or any harm to your little one so my suggestion is stay cold turkey keep yourself motivated and active if you're not hungry or if you feeling nauseated try new food small portions it will get better it will get easier just the first couple days isn't the most difficult.
you can do it stay strong everything will work out congratulations on your pregnancy :-)
  • Well I'm currently on my 3rd baby. And I have been smoking mj since I was 19 not to be high but because I battled depression and anxiety. When I found out with my 1st I quit cold turkey and it was very difficult but in the long run I learned the joy of having a baby and fought depression with the joys of having a baby grow inside me. When she was 6 months old I found out I was pregnant again and this time I couldn't find myself to quit. I was under a lot of stress and smoked for almost 7 months of the pregnancy. My Dr did discourage me due to it being illegal in my state also and the smoke in the placenta is harmful. My 2nd daughter is beautiful and extremely smart and healthy. No side effects. Now on my 3rd. Again I've decided it's just not right and I will try to continue to not. Sooo.... any which way you go. Is always probably gonna be difficult. Best of luck.
  • Talk to your dr to see if there's anything to help with the withdrawals. Your baby is the most precious thing in the world. Continuing to smoke because you find it difficult to quit would just be selfish and your baby's health needs to be your top priority.
  • 7 weeks and been smoking for the past 8 years. I found out I was pregg and I do admit I smoked a little bit after I found out but only when I was stressed to the max. Littterly rippi g off the bfs head, it has helped me with blowups along with depression medication. My Dr talked this over with me and just said " do your best" " if you need a "hit" and your struggling then do what you need to do. And don't make yourself feel guilty. Thousands of woman smoke cigarettes and have for hundreds of years. Pot is not a poison such as smokes.
I have only had 3 small hits since I have found out, but I have noticed Im going longer without "feeling the need to smoke"
I have a girlfriend who has 2 beautiful healthy kids who are amazing and smart, I'm not worried for my babe, as long as us MaMas don't go Crazy, we should all be fine.

Remember to do your best. You clearly are being proactive in seeking out others opinions, and thinking of your baby first. :) just don't make yourself feel guilty.
Talk to your Dr and see what they say.
I hope you can find a way to enjoy your pregnancy go the fullest ! :)
  • I've been a regular pot smoker for about 10 years and quit when i got a positive test. Research seems inconclusive, my decision to quit is that I think that smoking weed is a choice I make as an adult not one for me to put on my child. DH still smokes and the smell is enough for me right now! That having been said I lnow mamas who have smoked throughout pregnancies who have perfectly healthy children now. I think it's a matter of choice and what works for you. Good luck!
