breathing FIRE!!!

I don't know if there are other post about this or not.... But I'm to uncomfortable and to search all the pages so I am sorry if I offend anyone by repeat posting....

Anyone else having horrible heart burn, indigestion.... ??? I've taken tums and alkaseler with out relief and tried to drink a glass of milk. They all help for about 3 seconds then I'm back to breathing fire. Anyone have any secrets or things to try to help ease this discomfort?

Re: breathing FIRE!!!

  • I tried everything. 20 mg of Prilosec daily has saved my life.

  • Zantac was recommended by my OB and it helps a lot. She also said I can take Prilosec if it doesn't get better.

And for me, milk makes my heartburn WAY worse. I've actually cut out milk.

  • I used to eat cold bananas to get a little relief or found sucking on the tums worked better than chewing and swallowing it. For the last few months I've had to take protonix daily. I've tried other medications but this is the one that works best for me.
  • I was told that pears are great for heart burn. I have not tested it out as most days the tums help and when chewing them does not work I suck on them.
  • My OB recommend Pepcid AC (Famotidine) and that has worked wonders! I only need to take one 10 mg chewable tablet a day. Hope you get some relief soon.

  • I suck on tums like they are jolly ranchers. Honestly it's my new candy. Try sucking on them, better than chewing.

  • I got some ginger and Papya tablets from the natural food market and they have been working great!
  • I have a constant battle with heartburn! I've found Pickle Juice to be my best friend on this. Thankfully, I LOVE pickle juice! :))
  • My heartburn is horrible too. Sometimes it's so bad that my lungs feel like they are on fire and I can feel uneasiness in my whole back. Staying away from wheat has helped me a lot. Sometimes chugging water helps, as well as antacid tablets like tums
  • Mine isn't so much heartburn as what I am assuming is reflux since I get a burning liquid that comes up into my throat and has given me a horrible cough. Tums did nothing. My OB recommended liquid Gaviscon (OTC) and it's been amazing because it seems to work pretty much instantly
  • Zantac has been my best friend!! And generally avoiding foods that irritate it, try googling them.
  • I take daily garlic with digestive enzymes it's the only thing that helps me without meds
  • I've been doing zantec for prevention and gaviscon when I still have issues. (Only needed to do both last night, my own fault for over-eating at all y can eat sushi, mostly just zantec has worked)

  • The struggle is real. I was almost in tears during a meeting! Tums are worthless but the soft chews are a bit better. I'm now on Zantac at my dr's recommendation. Doesn't matter for me what I eat-a grilled cheese sent me to Miseryland 2 days ago!
  • Yes I have reflux as well and gaviscon is the only thing that works for me
  • My OB recommend Pepcid AC (Famotidine) and that has worked wonders! I only need to take one 10 mg chewable tablet a day. Hope you get some relief soon.

Why, when I saw the title, did I think you were the op. I'm glad you still replied though.
  • Apples in the morning, Pepcid (prescribed by doctor) dont eat greasy foods or spicy foods!!!
  • Oh my gosh yes. My suggestions: sleep on a wedge pillow or recliner; cut out all fried foods, spicy foods, and carbonated drinks; drink milk for some relief; take a Zantac or pepcid if it's still unbearablr.
  • Almonds work for me. I get a mild case of acid reflux.
  • This stuff taste horrible, but it literally works miracles.

  • I just started taking the generic form of Zantac today. I had an appointment with my on in Tuesday and brought up my out of control heartburn. She said that I could take up to two Zantac a day. I am starting by only taking one after lunch and seeing if that is enough. I highly recommend the generic...it is way cheaper...name brand Zantac is super pricey. I would rather save the money for baby things.
  • Thanks ladies I am going to the Dr. On Monday and heartburn relief will definitely be on the list to discuss.
  • @heathermartin928 You could probably call your OB and see what she recommends. If it's something that can be bought OTC, most places sell small one week supply bottles. Then have her write a prescription on Monday for you so it's cheaper, that's what I did. That way you don't have to suffer the weekend, heartburn sucks especially when you don't have to deal with it. With prescriptions you usually only have the copay and you get a larger supply. It's saving me quite a bit.
  • I haven't had to deal with heartburn yet, but I read on another board that almond milk was great for it!
  • My heartburn comes for a couple hours in the late afternoon, always worse if I've eaten something trigger-y like fried food or tomatoes (good lord, me and tomatoes are not getting along)! I have to try the pickle juice thing, but I will probably just eat and suck on pickles, because I don't like straight juice. hahahaha I also hate tums with a passion, though I am glad that some of y'all are finding relief with them. hahaha

  • Zantac.  Every day.
  • Pickels, milk, and ice cream help. Also avoiding drinking water really fast, avoid bananas and fried food or pizza.
