Small Blood clot under placenta

hi there! This is my first post on this site, I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts! I am 13 weeks today with my 3rd baby :). I had an ultrasound @ 10 weeks and then was told I had a small blood clot under the placenta. It wasn't my regular Dr, and she seemed to brush it off fast, but then said there is a chance to miscarry :(. Just curious if anyone else has been told they have the same thing? And any advice... Thanks!

  • I could be wrong, but I remember reading in one of my pregnancy books that it's not unusual and resolves by itself before week 20. Maybe that's why your doctor didn't want you to worry. Take it easy. Hoping it resolves by your next appointment.
  • Hi! I actually have the same thing. Mine is small -2cm by 1cm and mine was found at a 9 week appt. My doctor told me it is more common than we know and that it can often happen from implantation and the egg embeds in the wall near a blood vessel creating a small bleed. They determine what 'small' is by comparing it to the size of the save. If it's less then 50% of the sac size it's small. My doctor said the same thing- no big deal, but she did tell me no sex and no heavy lifting- not even my 1 year old son. They also told me no flying due to pressure change in the planes. I've been back once for a follow up scan that I asked to do. It was the same size luckily- the shape of it just changed. She told me that they usually will bleed out or re absorb back into the body. Have you had any bleeding or spotting? My doctor said she had a patient with a very large hematoma and it took up to her 28 week appt to reabsorb! Hoping mine is gone, but I'm sure it won't be..... There are risks associated with it I read every website that had any info about it- just wanted to be informed. Just take it easy and be sure to rest! I try not to think about it, since it's out of my control. I think about what I can do- which Is rest! Hope this helps!
    Thanks!
  • I also don't know but keep us updated, we will be thinking of you!
  • I have the same thing. I am 15 weeks and have not had any bleeding for 3 weeks now. It should absorb itself. Thinking about you!
  • Thanks! This group is fantastic! I have had no bleeding so far, hoping it stays that way!
  • I have an appt on Monday. I'll have to ask what the size of mine is. I have had no bleeding so far, and hope I don't! Thanks, you have made me feel ok about this!
  • I have that too. They told me at 11 weeks... I'm now 16. I'm not as worried as I was in the beginning of finding out. I have an appt coming up on the 26th... Hoping it has been reabsorbed.
  • She also told me that it usually reabsorbs by the second trimester :) & that it isn't rare. I believe she said it is seen in about 20% of pregnancies. I wouldn't worry, you will be okay :)
  • Keep us posted ladies for sure, I'll be praying for the best for all of you!

  • Thanks! It's sure great hearing about everyone else who have been told this. The Dr said they wouldn't look till my 20 week ultrasound, so I might see if I can have another scan to see if the size has change... Need the piece of mind!
  • I have the same thing and this is my third baby too. I found out at 12 weeks when I started spotting and had an US. My OB isn't concerned and didn't give me any restrictions. I started spotting again at 14 weeks so I called again just to double check and they said not to worry unless I get bad cramps and/or bright red spotting. I thought it was weird that I hadn't heard of it before now, being my third pregnancy, but apparently it is fairly common. Hopefully your body will just reabsorb it!
  • Good luck tomorrow @RHrebien! It's worth a shot to ask for another scan for peace of mind. And if not, perhaps bringing up your concerns will prompt them to give you more info. Let us know how to goes!
  • Wah- do had my Dr appt on Monday & last night (tues) I started spotting :/... Baby's heartbeat is 153! Not sure if it's the blood clot or maybe from the internal the Dr gave me?
  • It's not uncommon to spot after any sort of aggravation down there. Just keep an eye on it and don't hesitate to call your doctor's office if you are worried!

  • I have a small bleed under mine about 1 inch. When i went to the emergency room with cramping, they told me the worst. They told me my placenta is detaching from my uterus. Then put me bed rest for the next month, until end of September. I hope everything is going to be ok, but my regular obgyn assured me that the bleed looked like it was going away. So was it detaching or just bleeding? Who knows but I am set to see 2 specialist but of course they are at the end of the month. The wait and see game is always torture.
  • At my dating ultrasound at 6 weeks I was informed that I have a 2.7 centimeter subchorionic hemorrhage. They usually are absorbed by the body by 20 weeks.
