Measuring a week behind :( - UPDATED

I went in today to my OB at 7w3d since we're going out of town this weekend and she wanted to see me before our vacation. Well, when she did the ultrasound, she measured me at 6w3d. I know when we conceived and I tested positive on 7/31, so that would be impossible to measure a week behind. She did detect a heart rate of 130bpm, but said that since I've had brown spotting and the baby was measuring small, I was at risk for m/c. I'm so sad and depressed. They did a lot of blood work and are having me go back in 2.5 weeks, we were so excited to tell our families today and now I don't know that I want to tell them and have to deal with all the "do you know anything" "are you ok" "did you mc" questions until then. Anybody else measure small and have brown spotting? What was the outcome? Did you end up with a healthy baby or m/c?

Then to top this off, I am rushing back to work because I had a work meeting and I get a speeding ticket for going 5 over the speed limit. Talk about not my day. I want to crawl back in bed and have a re-do of today

If u first tested positive on 7/31, wouldn't you be about 6 weeks (give or take) now?

I am assuming this is your first? DD measured "small" much of my pregnancy. Some appointments it would be only a couple days and one appointment it was a week and three days. She was born 9 days late at almost 8 lbs and is still a peanut tso and a half years later. I know easier said than done, but deep breaths, today you are pregnant. If something happens it's out of your control.

Ultrasound is amazing at at lot of things, but measuring exact size is not one of them. My OB with my son didn't care if US measurements were off unless it was by more than 10 days.

Fun story: DS was measuring huge on ultrasounds, and they were actually suggesting that I consider an elective c-section at the imaging place since he was going to be over 10 lbs. My OB was like, nope, you'll be fine. He was born full term at 7lbs 4 oz. He did have a huge 95th percentile head, so that was accurate at least, but his weight was so far off.

You heard a heartbeat! Maybe your baby is just on the small size. Maybe the ultrasound is wildly off. Spotting is not awesome, but it can be normal. Brown, from what I've heard, is less concerning than pink or red. I hope everything is fine, and I know it's hard not to worry, but I hope this is a little encouraging.

thaisac1 after I told her when I tested positive and when my last period was, that is when she seemed more concerned and mentioned being at higher risk for mc. @ready4theparty no this is not my first. I have a 16 month old DS, he always measured ahead or right as far along as I thought I was. @annikaD20 it could be that baby is small, but I didn't think that would become a factor until later in pregnancy...

This is what I'm currently going through and I hope it gives you some comfort. I've also recently had some brown spotting and cramping. Based on my LMP, yesterday I would have been 6w1d. Yesterday I was seen for an ultrasound and the sac and yolk sac measured 5w2d. At first I was discouraged but then my OB said based on my hcg levels and ultrasound that would have put me at 5 weeks so everything she saw was perfectly fine. My OB said because of my irregular ovulation times and whenever I ovulated varied, I cannot base my due date off of my LMP. I hope that helps you in some way.

Well, I'm a stranger on the internet, and your doctor is an actual medical professional familiar with your personal details, so you should listen to them over me. I'm still going to stand by my point that ultrasound measurements can be pretty inaccurate when it comes to size, and that a heartbeat is always a good sign. Maybe your baby is normal size and the way things were positioned made it look smaller. You'll know more at your follow up, and I really hope that all is well for you and your LO.

I mesured 4 days behind at both my u/s. I had some brown spotting too for a couple of days, but my OB wasn't concerned about it. I think brown spotting is normal, especially if you don't have any cramps. Hope all will go well for you.

I'm in a similar situation. My hcg levels are good, but yesterday I had cramping and some brown spotting, so they sent me in for an US. Based on my last period, I should be 7 weeks today. I knew if I heard a heartbeat, I would be relieved. Instead, they only saw a gestational sac and said it was too early to really see anything. My OB/GYN asked me to go back in for another US next week. I was trying not to panic and went for an easy jog/walk yesterday afternoon. After my run, I noticed bright red blood and freaked out, knowing I had mc and it was the end. I spent a few hours crying with my DH. But the bleeding stopped (it was just one spot once) and has not started again. And I have a very sensitive cervix--I bleed a lot at any normal pap exam. I'm hoping that things will be normal next week. Fingers crossed for both of us!

I had this with DD a couple years ago. Went in first first appt at 10 weeks. They did a u/s and said baby was only measuring 9 weeks. Well I had been using opks that time around so I knew exactly when I ovulated and how far along I was. I told her I was 10 weeks not 9 so she sent me to another place to get another u/s. That appt was a week later (so 11 weeks 0 days) and tech said the baby measured at 11 weeks exactly and everything was fine. Moral of the story everything is probably completely ok. I would say not to worry about it unless you start cramping really bad or get red blood, because brown is usually old blood that was just loosened from you uterus expanding to accommodate your GROWING baby!

With DD my first ultrasound was at what I thought was 11weeks(based on when I knew I conceived). But they ended up moving my due date back 20 days because I was measuring small. I couldn't believe it! And I measured 3weeks ahead the rest of my pregnancy and she ended up coming a week after the date they gave me at 10lbs! I'm pretty sure my date was right but they were convinced otherwise.

If I went by my lmp of June 21st I should've been 8 weeks when I went to my appt but I chart and know my ovulation date. I measured 3 days off of my ovulation and was 6w1d. If you don't know exactly when you ovulated you can't be sure when you implanted either.

I am in the same boat. I thought I was 7w 3d and doc is measuring 5 w6d which would mean I got my BFP 3 days after she thinks I conceived. Also, I know we didn't have sex the week she's now saying we conceived because we were in different cities. I told her this and she said it didn't add up but the baby is def fine and measuring at 5w6d, she kind of blew me off like she didn't want to know about my 6 BFPs because it didn't fit the timeline she had. We saw a heartbeat but I just have an uneasy feeling and I'm not scheduled to go back in until Sept 30. So frustrating!

@nikkinbonnie sounds like you should find a new OB, I would have been so angry. She listened to my concerns and when I told her the date I ovulated, when I got my first BFP and my that my period is every 25 days instead of 28. She seemed to take it into account and she mentioned that the ultrasound machines have a error margin and the baby was very deep in my uterus. But that's when she also mentioned that I was at increased risk for mc. I am praying that it was an error with the ultrasound machine. She is having me go in every 2-3 weeks for the next 2 months since she said that it is a little long in between to leave me worrying.

If your date of conception does not add up to the days you have had sex, keep in mind sperm can live inside your body up to 7 days. So you very well could have gotten pregnant on one of those days.

@geminioftwo good luck!!!! Have you had any more spotting etc? Were you temping? I was so I wasn't worried when I measured 6w3d the other week, when I should have been almost 8w. Even ovulation strips aren't as accurate as temping. Unless you know exactly when you ovulated, you could be totally fine! Also, I always measure a few days behind when I actually ovulated, and DS was just born relatively small ish at 6lb5oz. Some babies are just little.

I had another ultrasound and the baby measured EXACTLY where I thought I was!!!!!!! 10w1d! OMG I am so relieved. Also because I was measuring over 10w's she sent me straight to the lab for blood work, so well get our results for genetic testing and find out the gender in about two weeks! Here is our little gummy bear
