Pain in mid-back

So I'm at 18 weeks and today I started getting back pain like never before. It's right in the middle of my back and it feels like its right in my spine.  Anyone have something similar?  Does anyone use support belts?  I'm unsure about using a belt at this stage because my belly doesn't seem that big yet.  I just ordered a pregnancy pillow online and I'm going to get a heating pad.  Is there anything else you can recommend for the pain?

Thanks!

Re: Pain in mid-back

  • It's not too early for a support belt. I've been using one on and off since 15 or 16 wks, per doctor's instructions. Between the belt and my newly acquired snoogle the pain has mostly subsided, but my pain was a bit different than yours.

Regardless of all this you might want to talk to your doctor as there could be something else causing the pain.

  • I use one, it can be used is three different ways. I don't use it all the time only if I am running around a lot that day or slept funny. This is the earliest my back as ever hurt. For my second I used my c-sextion belt but I ended up giving that away and had to buy something two weeks ago. I helps the bank pain, and I like that I can use just parts of it. They have it at Buybuy baby so you can use a coupon too! https://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=922000113&MasterCategory_Id=MC32&kpid=92200-10-M&adpos=1o4&creative=61642597565&device=t&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CL7ny638xMcCFVGAaQodVxMC9w

  • Are you sitting most of the day or on your feet? I tend to get a piercing pain in my back if I sit for too long. I get up and take a quick walk around the office, then return to my desk and place a rolled up blanket between my back and the chair where I have the pain. It really helps to have your feet up on a stool of some sort while seated, also.

  • Thanks for the tips girls. Yes I do sit all day for work. I try to take at least a small walk twice a day.  It may very well be in relation to sitting. It was just so odd to me that it started out of nowhere, and then hurt like crazy and was different than any back pain I've had before.  I got those pads that you stick on your skin and they heat up. Hopefully thats ok. My doctor is on vacation so I couldn't ask. From what I found on the internet, it seemed ok to use heat.  It helped, I feel much better in the morning but by the end of the day I'm in lots of pain again.
  • I've been getting the same pain the last few days. I washed the floors in my house yesterday, and had to spend the rest of the night curled on the couch because my back hurt so much. I didn't even think to pull the belly belt out, but I think it's time!

  • I've been having similar pains (including hips) and a body pillow has helped a lot.

  • I have the same pain right on my spine. Tends to get worse after I sit. I asked my doc on Monday and he said it's most likely due to growing and probably is worse for me because of my scoliosis.
