December 2015 Moms

How are you sleeping at night?

For me I literally wake up every 2-3 hours all night long to pee so I never really enter a deep sleep.
The bad thing is I'm definitely not even drinking as much water as I should be! I can't imagine how much I'd be waking up if I were!

But hopefully I'll be used to it by December and my sleep habits will remain kinda the same after baby but we will see haha.

Re: How are you sleeping at night?

  • I'm not sleeping well either! Up every 2-3 hours to pee, can't get comfortable and I wake up with tailbone pain every morning! Some nights I just lie awake and others I have crazy nightmares. It's so unfortunate!

  • Same for me. Peeing constantly and back pain. I'm trying different arrangements with pillows but haven't found a comfy spot yet. I did read that the best position is in your side with both knees bent. That's helped a little along with more elevated pillow.
  • I keep telling myself it's too early to be this uncomfortable but I just feel like I'm never comfortable
  • I'm okay. I get up a few times a night, but I seem to be able to get back to sleep pretty quickly.

My biggest issue is finding a comfortable position, then remembering not to stay in it forever because I wake up stiff in the morning.

Right now, baby is super active at 10 am for about an hour then again at 7 pm for about an hour, then again at 11 pm for about an hour. I haven't had a lot of overnight kicks, so aside from the constant peeing, my sleep isn't that interupted.
  • I sleep in a fortress of pillows! I have one to keep between my knees, one to hold, one wedged in my back and one under my head. It's the only way I've been comfortable. I wake up to pee throughout the night and baby kicks me awake around 6 every morning.
  • I've having a very difficult time falling asleep because I'm uncomfortable in every position and the baby moves constantly while I'm trying to fall asleep. Then I wake up 2-3 times at night because I'm too hot! My dh gets cold and turns off the fan, then I wake up drenched in sweat, and turn it back on. The result is that neither one of us is getting enough sleep. (I have asked him if he could just get another blanket and not turn it off, but he says when he wakes up in the middle of the night he is just so out of it that he doesn't remember.)

Oh my gosh, yes! I forgot that part. I'm constantly burning up. For some reason our bedroom is the hottest room in our house even with the ceiling fan and a box fan constantly on! And that's with our AC set on 70! I've been trying to convince DF to switch our room and the nursery because it's so much cooler in there and they're relatively the same size but he won't give up our walk in closet!
We are waiting to get a twin bed out of storage we are going to go ahead and set up in the nursery for sleepless nights awake with baby, I told him I'm just going to sleep in there once we set it up hahaha

I've been using a maternity pillow similar to a snoogle since I was around 16 weeks. Sometimes it's perfect, other times it's a pain. However, currently I have an upper respiratory infection, meaning I can't sleep completely flat without coughing my brains out or not being able to breathe out of my nose. So I have a normal pillow on top of the snoogle and a wadded up bed sheet right under that so I sleep pretty much sitting up. It's not usually comfortable, but lately it has worked great. I haven't even had to get up to go to the bathroom the last few nights, but even before that it was only once a night. I only get about six hours a night anyway so it sounds about right with everyone else.

  • As long as I don't drink much after dinner, I really only have to get up to pee twice per night (always around midnight and 3:30 am). But he kicks a bunch right around the same time I want to go sleep, so I have some difficulty falling asleep. So far, I only have minimal problems getting comfortable, and it's getting pretty cool here at night. Plus, DH is pretty much always hot, so it's working well for me that he wants to keep the place cool. I'm sure this will all change over the next few months, though, and I'll be sleeping poorly like the rest of you eventually...
  • Lots of pillows, snoogle behind me wrapped around and between my legs, a pillow for my head, one for my tummy, a/c on (which I had to purchase a unit for the bedroom so I could survive lol) and a fan on. This has all seemed to help me sleep better, but I do tend to sleep only in the same position as i find it hard to flip to the other side at night due to stomach pressure.
  • @littleSkittle14 I've had tailbone pain and haven't been able to figure out from what! I'm glad I'm not alone.

I've been sleeping terribly. I'm a back sleeper normally and am paranoid that I'll roll onto my back and the baby won't get enough oxygen. And I'm constantly switching from 5 days with a body pillow to some days with just multiple regular pillows. If it's not one sleep issue, it's another lol.
  • Not trouble falling asleep at all. I usually go into deep sleep between 9-10pm. The issue is I wake up close to 3 am and can't go back to sleep. :( I usually pee once I'm up but not because I feel I have to. Also my wrist is starting to hurt a lot. Other than that I'm not uncomfortable so Idk why I keep waking up.

Ummm and when you wake up are you raging mad about it? Once or twice a week I wake up at like 3 and just wake up so pissed off I can't go back to sleep! So hormonal!
  • I have such a hard time falling asleeping. Im so tired but my mind is active. Also uncomfortable let or heart burn. Then I wake up to pee and sometimes it's hard to fall asleep. I have two box fans set up to blow on me so my temp has been good.
  • I don't have any trouble getting to sleep, but I do toss and turn most of the night changing positions. I get up once usually to pee. I splurged and got the snoogle body pillow and that has helped.
