Bath time...im lost

So we just lost umbilical cord Monday. Before this I was just wiping LO down since you arent supposed to submerge them until after it falls off. I feel silly asking this, but how are you all doing baths after it falls off?? Are you filling tub up now?? Im clueless how to give her a bath. Ill be youtubing how to give a baby a bath I guess! Lol

  • Ive been doing a warm wash cloth "wipe down" every night up until now. Im excited to really wash her up good tonight, hopefully she will be too. FX!
  • DH and I just tackled real bath time for the first time last night. We put her in the sling of the baby bath tub, in our bath tub. Didn't submerge her, just poured warm water over her head and sudsed up her hair, and then wiped her down with a wet soapy cloth and rinsed. She didn't like it much, but she sure smells better!! I think we'll probably give her a wash every 2 or 3 days; it's not like she gets dirty, and I wipe her face down about every 10 minutes.
  • We also have a baby bath. Once the cord falls off, like @breezymeema7 we make bath time a nightly scheduled "thing".

I also have an infant tub with a sling, made bath time so much easier. My LO first bath was out of necessity (massive poop explosion ) so I unhooked the bottomof the sling so I could submerge his legs and bottom but kept his head up. It worked great
  • I just finished LOs first non umbilical cord bath (fell off today). I put her bath sling in the tub but didn't submerge her. Just a little water and soap on a wash cloth and got her fully wet. Unlike before where I would just wipe with a damp cloth around belly button. Wiped her face with a damp non-soapy cloth and then did her hair (wet and soapy).
  • I put just a little water in the baby bath cuz I do like to soak her bottom. I put a warm wet washcloth over her body to keep her warm, and use another washcloth to gently wipe her down. Before the bath, I fill a few peri bottles with warm water and I use these to rinse her head and body off before I get her out rather than douse her with a big stream of water.
  • I have a sling attachment in our baby tub as well. I sit that tub inside our tub. Today for the first time I filled his tub up so his butt and back were in water. Used baby wash on wash cloth and wiped him down. Then washed his hair with the shampoo. Then used this little squirt bottle to rinse him off. Dry off and then put lotion on.
  • Confession: my baby just got her second bath ever last night at 8 days old. We will use a baby bath tub and make splashing in the water a daily thing eventually..........

Baby Will born 8/18. He's perfect.
  • @J&D2007 I do it about a half hour after feeding DS. He is nice and full for bath time and pj's- then off to bed for him.
  • I do a bath every night, it's part of our bedtime routine. I have a baby bath that I use right now, but we will be putting her in the tub with just the bath sling in a month of two. I only use soap every 4 or 5 days though to avoid drying out her skin. I try to keep it as relaxing and comforting as possible.

This. And it puts her to sleep for a good 4 hrs before she wakes up to feed. (She sleeps through the 2 hr diaper changes luckily)
  • I fill the tub right up and get in, then hubby passes me baby and I have a nice tubby with some breastfeeding and cuddle skin to skin time and then wash him up and hand him back off to daddy to go get creamed up and diapered and pjs.

Hubby and intake turns having a tubby with baby, I find it helps creat positive feeling about water and bath, rather then the being in a big tub alone crying while they have a bath. You can tell the temp of the water if you in too and less risk of little on getting slippery and going in to the water face first of you are there with your legs to hold him up.
  • I started co-bathing and its great. We do skin to skin and nurse and then jammies and rocking to sleep. I try to limit soap to every few days, so its just water and lotion daily.
  • we usually shower with baby. one in the shower one waiting outside for pass off.. none of my kids as newborns liked baths they would scream bloody murder. they all lived to shower with us though :)  we soap when needed.
  • @kat+1 and @carleyec93 I want to start co bathing as soon as I can!!! It wont happen everytime but at least once or twice a week. Doc says to wait another week before baths for me though! For now shes in her tub in a sling and going for first real, full blown bath tonight!

You can shower with baby I just suggest not using soap the first few times and using a light spaying shower head rather then the ones that can peel your skin off

Save the soap for when have tried it a few times and know how to hold baby so she won't fall if she is all soapy and slippery.

I fill her lil tub up with about 3 inches of luke warm water. I have the soap already on the wash cloth and a small cup ready before I put her in the tub. I lay out her diaper and clothes on my bed and then wrap her naked butt in a towel as I carry her to the bathroom. I keep that towel in my lap that way I can just pick her up with it immediately afterwards. I keep one hand on her at all times and wash with the other.
