Umbilical cord issue?

my baby is measuring very small at each sonogram...:below the 25 percentile. So they checked the cord and they are telling me that out of the 2 arteries only 1 is working. So she is getting restricted blood flow, which is what seems to be causing her smaller size. They are monitoring her closely. I have to go in for sonograms every 1-2 weeks.

Has anyone else ever dealt with this? Apparently it only happens in 1% of singleton pregnancies. But I would love to hear from others who are going through it or have gone through it.

I'm getting stressed hearing all the possible outcomes from the doctor...basically all roads point to c-section and early term birth possibly starting at 23 weeks!

  • Yes, there are a couple ladies on the board who have SUA pregnancies. If you use the search function you may be able to find their previous threads about it.
Sorry to hear you're going through this and I hope everything turns out okay with you and your little one!

  • I am also carrying a baby with a SUA. It is scary and Dr Google is not your friend. We have a follow up sono on Monday to check kidneys, heart, and urinary tract. We will also have a fetal echocardiogram at 24 weeks and start NSTs and BPPs at 28 weeks through delivery. I'm hoping to prevent a c-section if at all possible but my Dr is thinking probably a 38 week delivery. Obviously this is all contingent upon her continued growth throughout the rest of my pregnancy.

More than most of the time a SUA is an isolated anomaly with no other problems. So, that is what we are hoping for with this bebe too.
  • At one ultrasound they told me that my baby had SUA, but a week later another ultrasound showed that it had 3 blood vessels, not two. I have my A/S tomorrow. I'm hoping that it confirms 3 blood vessels. I guess I don't trust ultrasounds anymore.

They need to be looking at the bloodflow, not just the existence of the arteries. They should be doing it at the A/S, but you can ask the tech....
  • I just found out today that my baby girl has an sua and I am worried sick. I know exactly what you're going through. All I want to hear is that everything is going to be alright.
