Growth Ultrasound....

I went today and had my growth ultrasound I will be 37 weeks tomorrow, she told me his tummy is big and is measuring at a 40 week tummy, his feet are 3 inches long and he is weighing at 8lbs 1 oz..... Does anyone think that I could possibly be a little further along than they think I am? And if not I still have 3 weeks to go will he be a 10 pounder by then? lol

Re: Growth Ultrasound....

  • There's no way to really know. There is a room for error in the measuring and that could be a difference of a whole pound.

  • I got a growth us because baby was measuring big & everything was good except her tummy. Turns out I have late GD. Did you get a 3hr glucose test? Also the us are known for being 1lb over or under & are not exact weight. But as far as you being further along if everything else is measuring on target except tummy maybe you just have a chubby baby. My us tech kept telling us theres nothing cuter than a chubby baby. Pic is of my chubby girl at 35.4wks estimated weight being 8lbs & tummy measuring a 42.3wk baby
  • You will probably have a big baby. They gain about 1/2 lb a week. That's my doctor told me at least. She's trying to prevent me from having a 10 or 11 pounder so may get induced at 39 weeks.
  • Awww look she is so cute and their little chubby cheeks are so kissable lol. I did do the 3 hour gluclose test and it was normal
  • They were telling me this whole time I was measuring two weeks ahead... the fundal height is very inaccurate they said. We did a growth scan at 36 weeks and he was already 9 pounds! (supposedly)... I am now going in for another ultrasound Friday (38w6d) to see how hes doing in there... I know they use the measurements of all body parts to calculate the weight.. so they said he could have long legs and that's whats making the weight calculate to 9 pounds already at 36 weeks or the due date is wrong.. but either way they wont move it just monitor.  I will however have to meet with the doctor after the ultrasound to discuss options since I will be 39 weeks we will have to discuss (depending on his weight on Friday) whether I will need to be induced or C-section. But again... the error rate from what I have heard and they tell me could be 1-2 pounds in either direction. My sister was told my niece and nephew would be 10 pound babies and they were both born between 6-7 pounds! huge difference (in my FTM birthing mind :)). So who knows! Either way... loveable cheeks and the CUTEST baby leg rolls!!!! I cannot wait!
  • There is nothing wrong with a 10 lb baby. You can still have a perfectly healthy baby with a vaginal birth.

And growth scans are notoriously inaccurate.
  • Don't trust the scans and their weight prodictions. I had a scan this Monday that said 7 pounds. Scan on Tuesday said 6 pounds 6 ounces. 10 ounce difference. It's just a guest ament. Plus even if they baby is a big baby that's not to say you won't have an easy vaginal birth.
