How are you keeping it a secret ?

I am curious to know how any of you that have not shared your big news yet are keeping it a secret.

I am 5wks3days and nobody knows yet, (except for my BFF & hair stylist as they guessed) not even my other children. We want to wait a little longer to announce to our family. Tomorrow night we have a concert to go to with a bunch of family and friends and I am thinking of all the excuses in the book right now as to why I won't be having drinks before or at the concert. DH's aunt will be there and I know she will for sure ask me if I am not drinking and I need an excuse to stop her in her tracks. lol

Has anyone been asked yet ? How are you keeping your mouth shut about the big news ?

Can you drive to the concert - play DD? Any way you can get a 'drink' without actually drinking (a mocktail maybe)?

I've been asked only once by a co-worker but she's SUPER nosey and has been asking me for about a year if I'm pregnant so that doesn't really count. I haven't been asked otherwise, but I'm a horrible liar and would give it away for sure.

This is my 3rd so chances are I'll have to tell/admit to people earlier than I want because I'll be showing sooner rather than later. Not ideal, but whatareyagonnado...

Yeah my BFF and hair stylist asked and so I couldn't lie. lol

I could be DD, if in fact we drive. We actually live extremely close to this outside venue and could walk so I don't know I could use that excuse. They only serve beer at the concert unless you go into the bar area, which we never do.

The big reason is I just don't want his aunt finding out and blabbing it around before we can actually tell DH's parents.

This is also my 3rd so I have a feeling I won't be able to hide for too long.

We have a concert on Friday and I'm planning to be DD but I usually always have at least one drink so I'm bringing a water bottle with juice or crystal light and telling them it has vodka or rum in it.

We can't bring outside containers in. I'll have to see if that trick can work until we get in the concert entrance.

What concert are you going to ?

Tell them you are on an antibiotic and you can't drink with it. If they ask what it's for say you have a horrible uti. That should squash any other questions

My husband and I went to an event that centered around martinis. I sipped on club soda with lime all night. I don't usually drink carbonated drinks so it wasn't my best move but I didn't get a single question about why I wasn't drinking!

You could always do something like that...i.e. drink cranberry juice and tonic/sprite/gingerale looks like vodka-cranberry, tonic and lime looks like vodka-tonic, etc.

Also, if you get a glass of wine you can always just pretend to sip it.

Can you say that you're on some type of detox? They're such a trend right now that I don't even think you'll be questioned.

To answer your original question, I am a terrible secret keeper so I've been blabbing it to people I didn't think I would blab to.

I went to a brunch bridal party for my friend and I knew she would know something was up if I wasn't drinking. I tried drinking straight orange juice but she noticed! Just had to swear her to secrecy for a couple more weeks

If you drink a lot (like me haha, no judgment), you have to fake drink or people will know. That's what happened with my first. Buy a beer, take it into the bathroom, dump it out/rinse/refill with water?

Lol I don't drink a lot, but at these concerts we definitely do and so if I am all of the sudden not drinking they will suspect something.

We can't either but we tailgate in the parking lot and that is my one drink.

Agree with power about ordering a beer. You can also pretend to drink and switch with Dh or pour it out and fill with water.

I was going to suggest the antibiotic idea but saw someone already mentioned it. I'm actually going to use that excuse soon because there's a work function that I have to attend next month and my co-workers will wonder why I'm not drinking especially because I've drank at other functions before. The good thing is I'm known for getting a really bad cough due to colds so I'll be playing the antibiotics/i'm getting a cold card. Hopefully it will work because I am not ready to announce it just yet!

I have a concert on Saturday and was considering putting alcohol free wine in a regular wine bottle. I've never tried it before, I hope it tastes okay!

I always pretend that I'm drinking. If I'm with DH he often sneaks big sips of my drink or I take it to the bathroom with me and dump a little out each time. When it looks like you're drinking you don't have to answer or evade any questions.

I saw a suggestion that said "have your husband drink for two." What basically happens is you both drink the same thing. If you're both having beer, every time he takes a sip, have him switch with you and keep going back and forth!

I have been dealing this this since we started TTC - my husband is a homebrewer and into craft beer - so, many of our friends and events we go to together are centered around beer. I always assume that people will be grown ups and think what they want but be smart enough to keep their comments to themselves, but it is not always the case. I have said I am on antibiotics, but decided I can't use that excuse more than once because then I will seem very sickly

I said I was doing a cleanse one time. I agree with the mocktail idea or swapping bottles with your man - I am running low on ideas and still have a bunch more weeks before we tell anyone outside our family. Let me know if you think of any other ideas!

My office had our fantasy football draft at a bar last night. I drank cranberry and sprite. No one asked anything! They might have been wondering but that's ok. I told them all I was pregnant in May and then had a mc

Sorry this is gross but.....My friend swears by the diarrea excuse (you'll probably have to go to the bathroom a lot anyways!) I had to ask for Tylenol at the office a couple weeks ago and everyone had other stuff. They were like oh excedrin works faster and is better and I just was like umm I need Tylenol. She told me the diarrea thing after that. Crazy how much hiding is involved for every aspect of our lives during the early days of pregnancy!

I don't drink often enough for people to think something is up, so I'm safe there. I don't ever show until after 25 weeks, so I don't have to worry about that, either. The only real thing that would make people wonder is the fact that I nap every day, but so far, I've been able to blame that on getting up early to get the kids school and not being used to that schedule.

I recently attended a jack & jill bachelorette party under the same circumstance- but I am typically the drinker in the family! I pulled a waitress aside early on and gave her a tip and filled her in. She gave me "vodka sodas" aka soda with lime made to look like cocktails. When the shots came out I passed and told everyone I was trying to make the whole night and it was too early. Some people were definitely on to me but they didn't say anything. It's tough but keep your poker face on!
