Go with your gut..

Hey ladies. Just wanted to share my recent experience about listening to your preggo instincts. About 5 days ago I started having "Braxton hicks" more frequently, and a strong ache in between my legs. I was uneasy but figured that's just pregnancy and ignored it. Well by this morning they had become frequent and very uncomfortable.

I called the dr because at this point I was scared. They told me to come in asap to get checked. Thank goodness I was not dilated at all, but I do have an infection that can cause those symptoms. My next appt he would not have checked that thoroughly, so I am very glad to have caught it when I did.

Not the most dramatic story, but the point is if you feel something is off and is making you uneasy don't ignore it. It's better to be told it's nothing for sure than assume and be wrong!

  • With my first I also started having "Braxton Hicks" contractions 3 months before my due date. Initially I didn't think anything of them, but then they got stronger and daily, regardless of anything I did. I went in and it turns out I was having actual contractions, but they were non-progressive contractions. I ended up doing a daily log of contractions and having weekly stress tests and ultrasounds to make sure they stayed non-progressive for the remaining 3 months (they largely did). As nice as it was to see my son on a weekly basis, it was very annoying to have to take that much time off of work and go to the hospital every week. I'd do it all again obviously, but having that many contractions was stressful.

I guess my point is, ignore what the lay people around you say, and definitely go with your gut. It is better to be wrong and sure, than right and deliver 3 months early.

  • I say always call your doctor when you're worried. I find it slightly disturbing the number of people who seem to seek medical advice on this board or google. My ob said at the first appointment to always call with a question or concern, do not google. Glad it worked out ok for you!
  • Thanks ladies! Thankfully this is a very easy fix and baby girl checked out perfectly. I just wish I'd listened to my instincts sooner and saved myself a few days of discomfort!
