Regular doc not doing ER. Anyone experience this?

my doctor isn't in the surgery center the day of my retrieval. I'm sure it's not a big deal that another doc in their practice is doing it, right? He did one of my iui's. I just figured the doc would since she said that she would be there. You pick a doc for a reason, right? Maybe I'm overreacting.... I'm sure it will be fine.

  • Good luck. I didn't always have my regular doctor either but I was comfortable with all the doctors in the practice.

  • Thanks @mklewise2010. I guess it's hard when you haven't met all the doc's. I have met him before so I'm sure it will be OK.
  • So this is honestly how I view this. It's a just a procedure. It's not the part where they need to have an intimate knowledge of you to write a protocol to your needs. They're just doing a procedure that they do a procedure they do dozens of times a week. Ovaries are ovaries. The steps are the same. It doesn't matter who does it.

    You'll be fine!

  • You'll be fine. I was worried when I heard that my RE might not do mine either but than he explained to me that what you really want him for is the monitoring and medication dosing. He knows your body best for all of the stuff leading up to the ER, the procedure itself is not the complicated part.

  • The clinic we used has 2 doctors. We of course had our main doctor but they would switch off week to week on who did procedures and who did checkups with ultrasounds. But we were lucky enough to come to know both of them pretty well as it was a year long journey with them.
I agree with PPs that you don't need to be too concerned. It is something that they do all the time.

Same here. I have two REs in the clinic. I have had US done by the other RE during the cycle. And this was my first IUI. I guess it is common practice among practitioners. I agree with @jnissa.
  • I wasn't sure how difficult retrieval is. Not all doctors are the same when it comes to skill level; however if the procedure is easy even someone who isn't a great doctor could potentially do it well. I trust the facility where I'm at so I'm OK with it. :)
  • There are 21 doctors in my practice. There was a huge merge with IVFNJ and RMANJ...
My RE has never done my retrievals.
    Baby #2 coming in August!
  • Keep us posted on your ER, good luck! You will be knocked out for the procedure so you won't feel anything.
