September 2015 Moms

Had another ultrasound today for umbilical cord.

Well, they still can't tell if the cord is for sure knotted because basically it looks like a big ball or rats nest. It's just one big clump of cord down near baby's head. Good news is it doesn't look like its wrapped around her neck. But it's such a mess it could have multiple knots, or none at all. They did that 4d thing to look at all angles and can't say for sure yet. It's driving me crazy because they keep asking about movement and if I'm for sure feeling her move enough. So I will continue twice a week NSTs have another ultrasound next week and go from there I guess. They think she weighs about 5lbs 15oz so she's still gaining :) she did drop from 50th to 40th percentile, so makes us wonder about blood flow from cord. Ugh it's seriously causing my anxiety to go through the roof! Just need her to stay healthy and keep on moving for 3 more weeks. At my NSTs she does have some decels in heart rate but not enough to need immediate delivery but she is for sure squishing her cord. I seriously just want them to deliver her now, I can't take the worrying anymore.

  • How far along are you? I wonder if they would deliver her if you reach 37 weeks when baby is considered full term. I don't blame you, I'd feel safer if she was born too just in case. But I'm glad she's gaining weight still and no cord around her neck, that's reassuring!
  • Good luck mama! That's really stressful, but it's great they are monitoring it and they sound on top of things.
  • Goodluck to you and baby having u in our prayers
  • Prayers for you and baby. Hppe all goes well x
  • Good luck, that must be so stressful! I'm glad they're keeping an eye on things!

  • Totally understand why you'd want her out. Thoughts and prayers your way.
  • @sarahnikai 36 weeks. They want to induce at 39 weeks for other reasons but honestly those don't scare me. This one does and even though I know she needs to bake longer I wish they could take her at 37. You hear so many horror stories of umbilical cord problems leading to stillbirth late in pregnancy, I don't want to take that chance.
  • How did they know about the umbilical cord to take an ultrasound? Just wondered..I've always been paranoid about that and my doc office don't give any more ultrasounds after the 20 week anatomy ultrasound. I just can't get through my head how they know if something is wrong then without one.
  • @mpache06 I've been getting ultrasounds about every two weeks since the anatomy scan because they found an echogenic bowel, EIF, my bp was high and my fluids were getting low. They didn't notice the cord until recently though. Now they just can't decide if it's truly knotted or just all balled together. But from what I saw it definitely looks knotted to me. So I go back next week to look again and see her growth. I was told only about 1% of pregnancys have a knot in the cord so I'm sure yours is okay :) I think most of the time if it is knotted they aren't too worried but since my baby's heart rate has some decels during the NSTs it makes it a little more worrisome.
  • I have been getting weekly ultrasounds for about the last month. I had my daughter on Monday. The midwife yelled "we have a mirical baby"'she then held up her umbilical cord to show me a knot. Even with the extra monitoring they missed it. I am so glad they are keeping an eye on yours.

So happy your baby was okay! And congratulations! :)
