2nd Trimester

Has anyone been told gender at 14 weeks and was correct?

i have had 3 ultrasounds. 2 at my doctors office with different ultrasound techs. First one was at 12 weeks she said girl but don't buy anything yet, second one was at 13 weeks and she's been an ultrasound tech for 25 years and said she never makes guesses and she said girl..I just had another ultrasound today I am now 14 weeks and 4 days and she said girl and you could see the 3 lines perfectly and there was no evidence for boy at all. I know it's still early. But has anyone been told gender this early and they have been right? :)

  • Yes I was told at 13 weeks it was a boy..it was correct..that was 4 years ago now.

  • I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that have had correct guesses.

My personal preference is to wait until 18-20 weeks because the sex organs are fully developed by then.  Earlier in the pregnancy, they look the same for both sexes so I'm more comfortable waiting to get a more accurate guess.

On the other hand, there have also been people who've been told one sex at 18-20 weeks and when the baby is born, SURPRISE!  It's the opposite sex.

With my daughter I went to the ER at 13 weeks and the tech told me she thought it was a girl. Sure enough, it was. Random chance? Perhaps?

  • At 12-13 weeks the tech guessed girl. I had an elective at 17 weeks and the tech also guessed girl. It was confirmed at my anatomy scan last week. It might have been a coincidence though, I would wait until the anatomy scan before you start buying anything. :)
  • Why are you having U/S every week?

  • My friend had a 3D ultrasound done at 14 weeks, and they were able to tell.
  • I found out at 11 weeks ( girl ) but I had the harmony blood test
  • I would be cautious about buying anything. I have a friend who was told girl at the anatomy scan and it was a boy! They had no name picked out and had to return everything they could. Her doctor told her that often times they guess girl early simply because the boy parts are not fully visible yet or are hidden. It is much more common for a boy to be mistaken for a girl early on than the other way around. Most of the people I know that had early ultrasounds said the tech would only take a guess if it was a boy because if there is something distinct there then it is pretty easy to say without much worry, but if it is not there it definitely could be hiding or just too early so if they think girl the usually won't say it until the anatomy scan. It does sound like you have pretty good chances though, since three people were confident enough to say girl!

Are the ultrasounds for a medical problem?

Traditionally the closer to 24 weeks you get the more accurate the sex estimation is. I wouldn't buy anything gender specific until your anatomy scan.

  • When I was 14 wks pregnant the tech said girl, by the look of the Pelvic
When I had 21 wks ultrasound and 100% sure it's girl because of the three lines
  • It would be our first girl after two boys, we were surprised because we were expecting another boy. We would love to have a little princess so keeping our fingers crossed untily gender ultrasound but we would love another prince if be. :) a healthy baby is all we wish. :)
  • Yep. Had an ultrasound of my twins at 14 weeks, and the tech said two boys. Now at almost 30 weeks and no change! Of course accuracy at 14 weeks is lower, but it's def possible you have a little princess!
  • Do you mind me asking why you had 3 ultrasounds in 3 weeks?
  • Yes I was told my identical twins were both boys at 13 weeks. They said 85% certain. 21w 4d and yep, two growing healthy boys.
  • I was told at 14 weeks my daughter was girl and they were right!
  • I found out at 12 week US that it was a boy and my husband and I could clearly see it also. It was confirmed again at 20 week US
