I too am on metformin. I'm the heaviest I've ever been but not obese by any means, this is our third and was the hardest to conceive I think due to my weight. PCOS is a yucky yucky disease.
Hey! I was diagnosed with PCOS in January after having cycles lasting 120-140 days. Was told when I was 18 I probably had it but just finally had all the testing done. I too am not overweight weighing 130lbs at 5'7". I was started on Metformin BID for months and I felt HORRIBLE on it and was nauseas all the time and even tried the extended release and still sucked... So then I stopped taking it and I actually got a cycle within 50 days off of it!! First round of clomid worked for me without Metformin!!
I've really never been regular with my cycles. When I stopped my birth control in May of 2014 I was put on progesterone a few times trying to kick start my cycle but if I wasn't taking something I wouldn't have a a period and I had plenty of negative pregnancy tests. At my last Drs visit they did an ultrasound and confirmed the diagnosis of PCOS. The first day of my last cycle was May 13 and June 21st I had a negative pregnancy test and then I saw my Dr July 20th having still not started a cycle. They put me on progesterone for 5 days and after 3 weeks I still hadn't started my cycle so they told me to take a pregnancy test and sure enough it was positive. I was really nervous because I had terrible symptoms for the 2 weeks following the progesterone, really bad cramps, headaches and I kept thinking my period was about to start. So it really caught me off guard when I had a positive pregnancy test. I was going to start Clomid or metformin after my period started but that never happened. Has anyone with PCOS had something similar happen? I guess I'm also a thin cyster I'm about 5'1" and have always been around 110 lbs, used to be a competitive distance runner as well.
My DD was a metformin/clomid/ovidrel baby. She kicked my body in gear - starting at 14 months pp I got my period back and had regular 30 day cycles and this baby was conceived with no intervention!!
I was on metformin, femera, clomid, and a bunch of other vitamins for over 2 years trying with my ex. I started taking vitex about a year ago and lost 40lbs and this baby was conceived without anything.
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 22 (I'm now 33). I controlled it by using BC for nearly 10 years. My husband and I started trying as soon as we got married in Oct 2013. I did several rounds of increasing doses of Clomid. The last two cycles were with 250mg of Clomid, 5mg of Prednisone, and 1000mg of Metformin twice daily ending with hCG and an IUI. My RE was only going to let me try one more cycle when I got my BFP!
Congrats to all of us! With my PCOS I am on metformin and a cocktail of doctor-approved supplements. DH and I spent a few years "not, not trying" before I was diagnosed and another year really trying without clomid. One more year and five rounds later, we're five weeks in and couldn't be more excited.
We just found out after third Iui and an early miscarriage in may. PCOS is the worst. I have taken lots of different fertility drugs and they have added to the weight gain. Hope everyone has sticky babies. I do have a friend who has/had it as well and her pregnancy put a switch in her body and her symptoms went away after her baby. Hoping for her luck!
I do have PCOS. I did not use Clomid, however. I didn't know I had PCOS until I got off birth control pills, and the doctors wanted to just put me back on them but I said NO. I was on spironolactone a while, then added metformin, but I went off insurance and was off of both for a few months before starting back with a different doctor and have been on just metformin. I'm also on synthetic thyroid. We got lucky (so far) our first cycle trying, but I was preparing with doctor visits and supplements and everything for nearly a year ahead of time (and tracking cycles, etc.)
I too have PCOS and wanted to share that I've used a drug called Letrezole, serves same purpose as Clomid only my doc said it's more effective for PCOS patients. I've gotten BFP's twice while on Letrezole within the FIRST month!! Wanted to spread the word for all of you
Hi! Me! I have PCOS - was just diagnosed in April 2015 after being off the pill since August 2014. Third round of Clomid + Ovidrel and here I am, just over 5 weeks pregnant! I can't believe it, and I'm so paranoid! I've had several appointments already since then because my RE is hyper-vigilant about making sure everything is fine. Yay for Clomid babies
