hi moms, I've been getting headaches almost everyday for the past week. They are usually worse on one side. Any ideas as to why? I've been trying to drink more water but sometimes it's doesn't help. Should I be concerned?
Unfortunately headaches are a common part of pregnancy. Definitely let your OB or midwife know (as you should with any new symptom). Migraines are often described as being one sided, do you think it could be that? With my previous pregnancy I found cool packs to be quite helpful. This time I've been taking vitamin B2 daily (200-400mg in addition to what's in the prenatal) and haven't had as much issue.
Besides drinking water, maybe try snacking if you aren't already. Sometimes drops in blood sugar can cause headaches or make them worse. Also pay attention to see if anything seems to trigger the headaches or make them worse.
I hope you can find something that works for you. Headaches are one of the most miserable things to deal with in my opinion.
Im not a big caffeine drinker and never was but my ob suggested taking a couple sips of soda with my tylenol. She even prescribed me a tylenol with caffeine pill for headaches that just wont go away. It has helped alot.
I agree with the caffeine thing. That's what I was told by my OB as well and it has helped. Also, try sitting somewhere with your feet and hands in hot water with an ice/cool pack on the back of your neck. That has helped me a couple of times too. Unfortunately I get them almost every day as well and sometimes they just won't go away but hopefully these suggestions help a little.
My doctor immediately prescribed caffeine. And by prescribed, he said to drink one caffeinated beverage a day. It helped IMMENSELY! I had horrible headaches all first trimester and it was crazy how much better they were on the days I had caffeine. I know some people try and stay away from it but when a headache is coming on, I'll do anything to make it go away.
I'm gonna say caffeine too! And tylenol. I also use some essential oils for headaches. If they're severe and one sided could be migraines or cluster headaches, may want to talk to your doctor about those.
I've been getting them constantly for 1-2 months now...definitely mention it to your doc/midwife. My MW told me to take Tylenol (up to 1000 mg a day) to help, and also to try some caffeine if the Tylenol wasn't helping. I've also heard someone else saying that magnesium (I think) may help, so you might want to ask your PCP about that as a possibility as well. GL! It definitely sucks when you're getting them every day
One of the most common triggers for headaches is stress. I get stress headaches daily even when I don't actually feel stressed. I'm just a busy minded person naturally. I find drinking a cup of black tea (for caffeine) and then resting for about an hour helps. Sometimes this isn't possible at work, but clearing my mind, turning off any electronics, and sitting in the dark really helps.
Since I get them every day, I don't like taking Tylenol as you can become immune to it. So I would try only taking medication when the headache becomes disabling.
I also wanted to add that sometimes having something to eat helps my headache. I may not be hungry, but when I eat something healthy while having a headache it goes away. (Sometimes, not every time.)
I had the same thing!! My doctor said to take Magnesium(250 mg) to help with headaches. I take it everyday with my prenatal and it helps about 95%. I can at least manage them now. I'm super weary of caffeine, because I drank so little before I got pregnant. Hope this works and you get some relief soon!!
I drink something with electrolytes every other day (or every day if I'm outside more, or just need it). That helped a lot!! I don't usually get headaches, so to get them while pregnant was frustrating.
I drink Nutrilite's Sugar Free (it's sweetened with stevia, so it's good for baby, unlike Splenda/aspartame/sucrulose...) Sports Drinks (www.amway.com/Arielle) or coconut water, or my lemonade.
Here's my recipe for a gallon! 1 c lemon juice 1/2 c sugar (or sugar/stevia blend) 1-2tsp of salt Water
I usually mix some warm water with the sugar and lemon juice to melt the sugar, then add water. The salt with the sugar and citrus acts as electrolytes in your body! I think it tastes a little like Chick Fil A lemonade. If you blend it with some vanilla ice cream it tastes like a frosted lemonade!!
