I am currently taking a prenatal plus from Richards whole foods that has DHA/ ginger and 800 mcg of folic acid but it has me taking it four times a day. I just felt that was to many times a day to tak. How many times a day should I be taking? What prenatals have you found to be the best?

Re: Prenatal vitamins

  • I want to say my doctor said 400 mcg a day was sufficient. I honestly don't remember because I just bought the generic brand at CVS and have been taking them for awhile. I only take 1 a day.

  • I think there are a couple threads on prenatals alreardy. If you use the search tool you should find them and they might have some good information about what people are taking, what works well, etc. I like New Chapter.
  • I used Targets generic (up&cup) for son and never stopped taking them. They were great. No nausea, not too big, and cheap! Of course check with your OB for their recommendations, but mine said OTC ones are fine for me.

  • I am taking Vitamin D, Thorne Prenatal, and Nordic Naturals DHA. Love them all!
  • I take brain strong. It has the highest levels for dha you can get! And it's not from fish. So no fishy after taste. It also offers 800mg folic acid. They told me 400 is recommended but I could take as much as 1200 a day if I wanted. So I'm considering getting another 400 to take with it. I only take them once a day however there's 2 pills.
  • I take the Target brand prenatal but my doctor suggested i take more folic acid and he gave me some and the means now i am getting over 1200 now a day so i dont think it matters how much folic acid you get as long as your getting enough. He also told me to take D3 vitimans along with the others as it will make me feel better and less moody.
  • I've been taking Honest company prenatals and dha complete. It's 3 tablets and 2 gels. They're very gentle as well so I don't even have to eat with them if in feeling nauseous.
  • I like Rainbow Light, found at Target or the bigger one on Amazon.

  • I am taking Thorne Prenatal... has 1000 mg of folate for MTHR. My ob says 800-1000mg of folate. also taking vitamin D.
  • I'm taking pregnancare it has all the recommended vitamins and folic acid you need x
  • I'm taking trader joes prenatal's, when I remember to take it! (I'm usually pretty good about it)
  • I take New Chapter. They are the best! I do have to take three a day, but you can take them on an empty stomach. They are vegetarian and full of veggies including the vitamins. (Which are in veggies lol) I ordered
    mine on Amazon.
  • I'm taking the prenatal and DHA's from Honest...I've always had trouble with vitamins making me sick and haven't had any trouble with these. It's also super convenient because you can sign up for a monthly subscription, so you don't have to go to the store and buy them. I also add on the men's vitamins for my SO
  • I am taking the nature made prenatal multi + dha. And I take one a day. You can always call and talk to a nurse to see what they recommend you take.

  • Wow, ladies, I have found a winner for an omega supplement. They were handing out samples in my Central Market, and the timing was perfect! No fishy taste and does not make me nauseous. Barlean's is the brand and honestly, all of the flavors I tried were good.

I take the Garden of Life Vitamin Code RAW Prenatal, which seems fine (albeit with a gross vitamin taste, but what can you do?). I looked at the ratings on this site - https://labdoor.com/rankings/prenatal-vitamins - and didn't feel good enough with the gummy prenatals I'd been taking. I also take gummy fiber chews and Nordic Naturals DHA, and am going to add MegaFood's Blood Builder as I head into the second trimester since I know I'll need more iron and I've heard great things about it.

    I'm taking a Flintstone's, a DHA gummy, a probiotic, an extra 600 mcg folic acid (I had a deficiency pre-pregnancy) and 500 mcg B12 (another previous deficiency)

I had tried other vitamins in the past that made my stomach hurt so much I couldn't walk after taking them so my Dr was okay with Flintstone's because it has iron.

ETA who has you take it 4 times a day? If the bottle says to take it 4 times a day then I'd assume each pill only has 1/4 the total amount of vitamins listed and you have to take it 4 times a day to get everything out of your vitamin. 800 mcg might be more than you really need if you don't have issues with folate but I doubt it would cause any problems. If you're worried it's too much as your doctor.
