Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Clotting factors

Hi ladies...

I just received some test results from my RPL bloodwork my specialist had done, and looks like I have some major clotting issues. I have an appt to sit down with her to go over everything but in the meantime I am researching on my own. I get my labwork done through Quest Diagnostics and they sent me the results before my doctor even looked at them which I found odd. So naturally I start googling everything and looks like I have some serious blood clotting issues.

Positive for two copies of the 4G/4G variant
and
MTHFR DNA Mutation: Positive for one copy of the C677t variant.

Both after googling have to deal with blood clotting.

I have had 4 miscarriages. 3 chemical pregnancies and 1 clinical (baby died at 6wks)

Anyone have anything similar on their tests?! What did the Dr. advise you?

Just trying to mentally prepare myself for the appt with the DR. on thurs...

Re: Clotting factors

  • I've done a bit of reading on problems with clotting factors and the general consensus I've read is if you have to have a problem that explains RPL clotting is a decent one to have. Treatment with baby aspirin and sometimes heparin injections gives a lot of people pregnancies to term. I've also read that For MTHFR mutations you'll also probably need a special form of folic acid called L-methylfolate which bypasses the need for the MTHFR gene.

FX for a good productive meeting with your doctor where you feel confident in a treatment plan that will get you a sticky bean!!

  • I am getting ready to start all RPL testing. I had some blood drawn a few days ago for auto immune diseases and chromosomal testing. They are doing an HSG once I get my period and all other testing MTHFR will be done in a about a week. I am very curious to see what comes out of all of this. I am 37 and just had my second loss at 12 weeks, (mmc, trisomy 18).
Wish you the best of luck on your appointment, keep us posted!

  • Thanks guys! I am hoping that with these findings it can be fixed with the right treatment plan! @ceclarlinetlo I threw out my original prenatals as I have read they are no good and can do more harm than good. So for now I just started taking baby aspirin which from what I have read will have to be on for the rest of my life. blah! But hopefully this will be it with the results, but I am still waiting for the chromosomal tests to come back as well as an HSG since my last appointment didn't get to happen. I am hoping next month at some point we will have a solid treatment plan and we can start to TTC again! I am anxious but nervous to see if this fixes everything or if I will face yet another loss. :( Did any of your tests come back yet?

@adrimolina I still have yet to do an HSG...was suppose to get it done last week, but since my previous period was a miscarriage, they pushed it back until this coming period is over so they can be sure my lining is back to normal. It's the last step of the things I need to do to find out what is going on. But based on the recent results - I'm thinking its the blood clotting disorder. I will post more once I know more...I hope you will keep us posted as well with your results! It's crazy what they can determine these days!!

  • I'm still waiting. The plan my dr proposed was to discuss the blood work when I get my SIS done. I'm pretty sure I ovulated over the weekend so hopefully I am right and AF will come in 2 weeks and I can schedule the SIS for early September. But If AF does not cooperate I do have an appt for sept 16th to get blood work results.

  • Good luck with everything! :)
I am concerned about the blood clotting because if that is one of the reasons for my repeat mc I will not be able to take aspirin as I am anaphylactic, allergic to NSAID`s so hopefully they have another medication or solution of that is the case...we´ll see what happens. My RE basically told me I have old eggs, in a nicer way, DOR and that I should do IVF..but my OB wants me to try again naturally..this is all so confusing but glad some of these tests can give us some answers.. I will definitely keep you posted as well :)

  • @ceclarlinetlo definitely keep us updated with everything!! Hope AF doesn't take her sweet time! I think I am about to ovulate (even today perhaps)...just waiting to see my temps rise. Hope I don't ovulate late cause the sooner I get AF the better!

@adrimolina I am sure they will have something to work their way around that. But I hope that isn't the case with you, since it's a lifelong issue that you will have to take something for to prevent strokes/heartattack/clots. It's quite scary! But I am glad I found out now so maybe things really do happen for a reason? Meh, that's just me keeping a positive mental attitude! haha

I am afraid of the old eggs scenario as well - but they haven't tested quality yet. Right now she wanted to do all of the bloodwork to see if there were underlining issues before dabbling in deeper stuff such as IVF. She will probably put me on progesterone, baby aspirin and lovenox, and prescribe me a certain type of prenatal. Those are my predictions. And if it still fails (praying so hard it wont) but if it does - then we will have to start looking down the quality of eggs/IVF road...which honestly I cannot afford. :(

I really hope you get some answers and it's a simple fix! Definitely keep us updated!!
