High-Risk Pregnancy

Frequent headaches - 31 weeks. Anyone else dealing with this?

For the past six days I've been having daily headaches that come and go and they're terrible. I had to leave work one day because I couldn't focus on anything. Since I have GD already my doctor had me in for two days of monitoring and labs to make sure I wasn't developing preeclampsia. My blood pressure is a tiny bit high but nothing that she is concerned with. Is anyone else dealing with this? She prescribed Esgic which takes the edge off but doesn't completely kill the headache and I really hate taking it since it's a level C prescription.

Looking for anyone experiencing similar symptoms and wondering if you've found any relief.

  • I had them earlier on and lived on Tylenol and Zyrtec (because I didn't know what was causing it) which only took the edge off. Can you take some time off of work and try to recoup? I had to freeze my head with ice packs to get relief and, if you have someone around and, massaging your shoulders can help if it's due to tension.

  • Ended up at the hospital last night. Bp is spiking from 117/73 while lying down to 153/95 when sitting up. All tests for preeclampsia came back fine. My doctor is making me an appointment with a perinatologist tomorrow, hopefully the appointment will be soon! This is scary.
  • I know! At least you went to the hospital and you're seeing a perinatologist, it sounds like you and your baby are in good hands. I actually ended up with a headache last night! Thinking of you, please keep us posted.
  • Do you have a bp cuff at home? Might be worth checking hour pressures when your head hurts just to be safe.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'll update after my appointment.
  • I don't! I was about to ask you where you got yours. ☺
  • I picked mind up at Rite Aid. I think it was about $25.

Thank you! I had to Google to see what type of store Rite Aid was. :P
  • I ended up in the hospital with a terrible headache and winded up dehydrated and pressure high 138/91 then it would go down to 122/71 they eventually sent me home Tuesday morning and said my blood work came back gd this whole pregnancy protien has been spilling in my urine but they say it's fine
  • They actually gave me oxycodone
  • I think I'm going to have to ask my doc for something. This headache is killing me.
  • @BonnyJW I hope you were able to make it to your doctor and they could help you.
Mine prescribed Fioricet and then eventually Norco because I was in the ER and L&D 1-2 times a week with full blown migraines (and the vomiting won't stop for days until the headache is under control).
I hope you doctor understands how much pain you are in and you both come to an agreement on a way to control the headaches.
  • Turns out I'm in the stages just before preeclampsia and the headaches were bp related. They're almost gone now. Thank goodness!!!
  • I'm in the same boat, @BonnyJW! What have you done to get it under control? I feel better this evening, but I had a few days of headaches and swelling.
  • I saw a perinatologist who put me in bp meds and bed rest. The meds are working to bring down my bp which has decreased the headaches tremendously.
  • Thanks, missy! I'm going back in this afternoon for a headache that feels like it's coring my left eye out, I'll ask about B.P. medication. Glad you're on the mend.
  • My eyes were really painful when the bp headaches were happening. Good luck!
