Dizzy spells

I couldn't find anything in the search feature so I apologize if this was already discussed.
I just had my 2nd dizzy spell in the last couple weeks. The 1st time in was at work and randomly got really nauseous (had no nausea or m/s this pregnancy) and dizzy. All of a sudden I felt really hot and after getting water and sitting for a couple minutes I was fine. This time I was in the shower and all of a sudden got nauseous and dizzy again. I never had this with my first pregnancy. Is this just a pregnancy thing?

Re: Dizzy spells

  • My doctor warned me that pregnancy can lower your blood pressure and to make sure I stay hydrated. That could be it. Drinks lots of water. And once you think you've had enough drink more. Feel better.

  • You could be dehydrated or have low blood sugar or you're getting overheated. Make sure you're getting enough water and bring it up at your next appointment, or call earlier if it will ease your mind.
  • Have you been feeling like you are going to faint?  I will second the water intake, but also make sure you are eating often for your blood sugar.  If it still persists I would definitely let your doctor know.

  • I had dizzy spells several times with my first, and now a couple of times with this pregnancy. When I talked to my doctor about it the first time around she suggested having snacks with peanut butter. That and making sure to drink plenty of water seemed to help.
  • Same thing happened to me Saturday morning! I ate right away when I woke up, and drank a bunch of water. I think it was a combo of my already low blood pressure and how the baby was laying. But I'm a FTM so that's my hypothesis. Just want you to know it's not just you!

Yes, both times I thought I was going to faint. I drank a bunch of water and ate something but still don't feel right. I'm not feeling dizzy anymore but not quite my normal yet. I did mention about the 1st time at my last appt and my Dr assured me it does happen during pregnancy but now that it happened again I'm am a little nervous. I think I will call just for reassurance until my next appt.
  • I have dizzy spells several times a day and anytime I stand more than 5-10 minutes. I'm assuming it's my anemia and low blood pressure. But everything I read has said they are normal but I am going to bring it up at my next doctors appointment.

I have a very long history with fainting, and I have found that orange juice and bananas help immensely.  Dizziness does happen in pregnancy, but if you feel like you are actually going to pass out all the time then I would definitely seek professional medical advice.  You especially don't want something happening like when you are in a dangerous situation (ie, driving).
