Huggies wipes

Hello I was wondering if anyone else has heard about or watched the videos on Facebook of glass/fiber glass being found in Huggies wipes? When my daughter was first born I used pampers sensitive wipes and had no problems. Recently Kroger had them on sale for .99 cents, thinking it was a great deal I bought 20 packs of them. I noticed after I started using them on my daughter's private area that it was extremely irritated. I'm really upset and feel like a bad mom for not noticing it sooner. Has anyone else noticed irritation on there LO after using Huggies wipes?

My LO hasn't had a problem, but my sister had a baby who couldn't use any wipes at all *except* the Pampers Sensitive. Her LO just has severely reactive skin - he will also break out if he touches their clothes and they haven't been washed in hypoallergenic detergent. I would think it would be more likely that your LO is just really sensitive to fragrances / detergents / dyes

I'm wondering how true this is...seems like the complaints are just on social media. Huggies has said a statement that it is looking into it.

Most likely it's just your Lo is sensitive to wipes.. I would use dry cloths and plain water (or cotton balls and water) that's what we recommend, as even "sensitive baby wipes" have chemicals in them. Any time when my Lo started getting red from too many loose poops as a newborn, I would break out the cotton balls and warm water only and it took care of it within a day.. Wipes are way more convenient but plain water is the best! Give it a try

ETA- I only use huggies products and love them (including wipes)

I've used exclusively huggies natural wipes on three babies now, with zero problems. I think any redness you see is vastly more likely to just be regular diaper irritation.

I only use the wipes they use in the hospital. I just shove them in an old baby wipes container and wet them. They unfold and are huge, so I only use 1 or 2 per big poop as opposed to 37 other wipes. I couldn't stand the slimy feeling of regular wipes, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't irritating her tush.

I have also been using the natural unscented huggies wipes...the video was the cucumber wipes. I checked the bag that I currently have open (rubbing on my hands and face) and there does not seem to be an issue. When using the last bag, he got a severe diaper rash (raw burnt looking skin that the doctor prescribed a burn cream for) so I am hoping that it was not the wipes...he has been fine since. I would feel like a total d$&k if all that pain and uncomfort he experienced was from the wipes. If it happens again I will be all over those wipes. As a preschool teacher, I tested all the brands of wipes in my classroom before I decided what I wanted to use when he was born and huggies were thick, durable, and un-sticky compared to an array of brands. I decided on unscented because I thought I would play it safe with newborn skin that has never been exposed to fragrances and perfumes.

My LO is strange. She's not sensitive with diapers, but with wipes we can't even use Pampers Sensitive wipes (which we have a TON of). Haven't tried Huggies yet, but I may. The only wipes we have found that we can use are off brand sensitive like Target's or Sam's Club that someone bought us. Guess it's just trial and error for everyone. I wish I could non-creepily send you all some wipes we won't use!

@swaugh14 It's not creepy...you can sell sealed packages on yard sale groups (I have seen a ton of people sell unused supplies and even seen offerings of opened packages) or you could offer up opened packages for free to someone local who can get them from you

I used just huggies diapers on my son and he got such a bad rash he bled, I was heart broken. Since then I've had a sour taste to the huggie brand and to most people I've talked to something similar happened to their baby as well. But then again some I talked to LOVE the huggie brand so it's all personal preference some babies just have sensitive skin!

The Huggies wipes we currently use are leaving lots of lint all over LO. I'm finishing this package but won't be buying them again. Doesn't seem like anyone else here is having that issue - weird.

ETA: lint all over LO's genitals, not entire body - hopefully that was clear

@thay33 after reading your experience I feel more convinced than ever that the wipes were the cause of the burn rash on my boy - it was the only diapering factor that changed from the NICU to home. I am using other wipes gifted to us until a resolution is presented by huggies...not taking any chances.

Thanks to people gifting us wipes, we've been able to try a good variety - huggies, pampers, and honest, along with a few others. LO didn't seem to be irritated by any of them; while she has gotten a rash a few times, it's usually been after a huge poop as opposed to consistently getting one after using a specific type of wipe.

That being said, of those we've tried, I've liked huggies the least. I definitely think they have a rougher texture than the others I've used, and I've had to use more of them to get a mess cleaned up than I do with the other brands. We were gifted like 6 packs of huggies wipes so I've had plenty of chances to use them and get a good idea of how they work for our family... my favorite brand, for both diapers and wipes, is definitely pampers.

We have a huge box of Huggies natural wipes from Costco. I've had no issues with them and will continue to use them.

Yes! No smell, no sticky residue. No rashes, my LO breaks out with every other type of wipe. I even wash my face with these.

I'm wondering if I got a bad batch!? We tried Babyganics once and they smelled so bad I overheard DH telling LO once that he'd "rather smell her poop than these wipes!" And I totally agree!

We love our Buggies. No problems with them at all and they're not heavily scented like some other brands. I love Babyganics soap and diapers, haven't tried the wipes yet though. Maybe that'll be what we buy next...when we use up our hoarde.

We use pampers sensitive and never a rash or irritation in 12 weeks! We tried Amazons natural wipes but they stick together and every time you want one wipe, you get several stuck together. Would not recommend them!

There is a photo on my Facebook in a mommy group and it's a picture of a little girls crease with blood from a huggies wipe today where it cut her. Apparently the ones with Mickey on the outside. I wouldn't use them.

I haven't heard anything about huggies wipes, but I really doubt they contain fiber glass. That just makes no sense to me. It seems more likely that your LO is just sensitive to one of the chemicals.

We stopped using wipes when LO developed diaper rash that wouldn't resolve (honest wipes). Now I make cloth wipes with a recipe I found online and altered slightly. It's just a tablespoon of baby oil, and a tablespoon of gently baby body wash mixed in a cup of water. I just pour it over some cut up old school cloth diapers. I imagine dish towels or paper towels would work as well with some adjustments.

Anyway, just thought i'd share because we have had 0 problems since switching, and honest wipes are free of all the bad stuff but LO was still bright red. It's not just huggies that can cause problems.

Same here. No rash or irritation, just lots of lint. It's quite annoying, but not enough to throw out the stash I have. I use Amazon Subscribe and Save, but thinking of switching my order to Pampers.

Someone bought me a huge box of huggies wipes and my daughter got a horrible rash from them. I thought it was just an allergic reaction to those wipes and switched back to pampers sensitive, the rash went away. Not sure if there are fibers, glass shards, or whatever in the wipes or not but they definitely caused a reaction and I could feel they were rougher than the pampers.... I should note they were the huggies natural care wipes

Seriously, this thread gave me anxiety. I didn't believe it, rationally I felt confident in OP and whoever on social media just having a sensitivity to them, but I kept feeling my wipes before using them for the last 2-3 days. No offense to you, OP, but I hate this thread

I checked my wipes and didn't seem to find anything that looked like glass/fiberglass. It is crazy how big social media can blow something up. I just want to clarify that I never claimed that the reason why they broke my LO out is because there was glass in them. I simply wanted to know if anyone else had experienced the same problem as me and happened to find any type of glass. I am definitely going to try to make my own wipes. Seems like a great idea and possibly a money saver. Thanks @HayesRN13

Lol...never claimed mine had glass either, but after his raw, burnt skin on his little bum, I will not be using Huggies wipes again. I have now been using Seventh Generation and they are comparable to the thickness of huggies, but feel softer (not so lumpy)...like huggies they do not leave a slimy residue.
