Diapers

I am a FTM was wondering which brand is best between pamper, huggies and Luvs.comment telling me which one worked best for you and why...

Re: Diapers

  • I have always preferred pampers. They are soft, absorbant, and never had a problem with leaks. Huggies are more stiff and my little boy always leaked if he wrote one at night. I hated luvs! They are cheaper for a reason. They were really squishy when wet and if I used one overnight my baby had little balls of jelly stuff on their bottom.

  • Pampers. I love pampers I tried huggies and I could smell the pee, and I found they leaked... I never tried luvs, never heard of them.

Pampers swaddlers for when they are small and I transition to luvs later..they are cheaper and work great if not better!
  • Pampers! Luvs gave my baby a rash, and Huggies smell like urine to me, even when they're dry. Also, my baby had more poop up the back with Huggies.
  • None of those brands!
Terrible chemical smells. She would even cry when she peed in pampers.
Earths best is my favorite by far.
  • I may be in the minority, here, but I like Huggies. Pampers don't fit my DS as well.

That being said, I'd try a variety of brands before you stock up. Different brands fit differently.

Huggies, Pampers, Kirkland Signature (Costco) are all good, and if you want natural/organic there's Seventh Generation as well as Honest Co that you can try in addition to Earth's Best.

  • There are multiple threads on this, have you tried searching?? I posted a link the other day on the most current one and every seemed to find it useful. It was a comparison chart by reviews and cost per diaper. I found it very helpful and decided to go with pampers swaddlers at least to start out for a bit.
  • I definitely loved pampers saddles with my son. They were soft, absorbent, and fit him very well. Huggies leaked for us as well. I did use Luvs when he got older though. :)

Also heard Luvs is made by pampers so that could be a reason many like them later when size of child isn't so sensitive like a newborn. Luvs is just the more budget friendly line for them!

  • When we( my siblings and I) were in diapers we couldn't use pampers at all we would pee and the gel stuff would come out and give us chemical rashes, then just recently in a store 2 ladies with their young children (too cute!) Stopped and asked us if we had any problems with pampers because the same was happening to their LO's! So Im not sure I did get some pampers for my baby shower so I'll try some but a the first sign I'm trading them in for Huggies snugglers I especially like those for a newborn because they are cut for the umbilical cord so it doesn't rub
  • My husbands diaper party was this weekend and the majority of the guest swore by pampers. As a FTM, I keep hearing it is trial and error to find a brand that works best (fit) for your baby...I don't think we will have to buy diapers...ever....but I am going to have to do some exchanging!
  • I too love Pampers. As PP said Huggies are stiff & Luvs are thin. I've used Pampers with my 3 order children & will use them with this LO also.
  • We had a diaper raffle at my shower this past weekend and everyone brought pampers.
  • I used pampers for the first week with my son and then went to buggies, the Mickey ones. With my daughter I mainly used parents choice (walmart brand). I've never had issues with any specific brands so we just use what we grab lol
  • When my son was an infant we mostly used pampers. Once he got a little older he was having terrible diaper rash and I noticed the "gel" would be on his skin if he was very wet when waking up. I switched him to Honest Company diapers almost a year ago (he's 22 months) and we have not had any rash problems since.

I haven't decided yet if I will start the new baby with pampers or honest company yet...it really is a trial and error sometimes
  • Pampers.  Hospital uses Pampers swaddlers too.  I started using Luvs (to save money) for my 20 month old because she isn't constantly peeing/pooping the way infants do.  I'm happy with Luvs too for the toddler age.

  • Thanks for the comments,i think i am going to get different brands and do trial and error...as it seems every baby is different.
  • I used Pampers Swaddlers for probably the first 6 months or so with my son, then switched to Target brand diapers.  I think I might try a small package of newborn Target brand this time around and see if we can save some money from the get-go!

I tried Huggies and Luvs and they both leaked like crazy and were not soft at all.

  • I also used pampers when they are small and when my daughter got older we used either luvs or target brand. They worked real well I found huggies leaked.

  • Pampers swaddlers were the best for us, and we tried several different brands. Once my DD was a size 2, we switched over to target brand until she was potty trained.

  • I used this study and decided to go with Bamboo. They're cheaper if you have Amazon Mom. https://m.babygearlab.com/Disposable-Diaper-Reviews
  • I'm going with Bambo as well. I bought a pack of Pampers Swaddlers NB for when we come home from hospital and will then switch to Bambo.
  • I'm not picky on pampers vs Huggies. The Huggies little snugglers are soft, but their snug and dry is so scratchy. Pampers baby dry (for later) is much better for the cheaper option. Also, I liked pampers better when he was younger because they came up higher and contained the blowouts better as a result. I was unimpressed with Luvs. I think it can often vary which diaper you like based on their size/shape.

  • Pampers. My daughter broke out in a horrible rash within a few minutes of wearing Huggies.

  • Wanted to add something for the moms who are planning to go with Bambo (as I am). A friend of mine who uses them had a good tip that I wouldn't have thought of. She said that since they'll go through about 10 a day when they're really new (and there's not much in those early diapers), she starts off with something cheaper and switches to Bambo after a few weeks. I recieved some different diaper packs at my shower (earths best, seventh generation, babyganics, and pampers swaddlers) so I'll just burn through those before ordering the bambos (assuming they fit him and we dont have any skin irritation).
  • @Louisl - good point! One reason I am going with Pampers Swaddlers NB at the start is twofold - the hospital uses them and they have a wetness indicator. I want to stay away from diaper rash if possible - so frequent changes will be key early on and the indicator will help with that especially since I am FTM and know that I will be overly cautious about changing wet diapers. Then moving to Bambo because I want a more natural option and it also has the wetness indicator.
  • @comland oh I didn't even know about the wetness indicator! I put the pampers swaddlers in the closet because those were the least natural, but now I'm thinking they might be more useful. Thanks!

@Lousil - you make a good point  - might be good to just go with Bambo NB from the start since it has an indicator. I felt bad 'wasting' the Pampers that I had bought before discovering Bambo so thought I would use them...but maybe I will get a some Bambo NB size instead. I bought the Pampers through Amazon, so returning would be a pain but I could always donate them to the local food bank.
  • Cloth family all the way here :)
  • Random fact: Our neighbors works at P&G in the baby department and overseas the diaper line. Luvs and pampers are made on the exact same machine using the exact same material. Luvs however are cheaper, because they're not "name brand."

We've been using pampers, but we're wanting to switch to cloth. It's said to be more cost efficient and with having two in diapers at the same time cost efficient sounds good to me!
