Too soon?

Okay, so I'm aware that rib pain and soreness is not abnormal. I just thought it was something that happened in the third trimester. I'm 18 weeks and I feel like a combo of my boobs going from a full C to an overflowing DD already + my bump is getting "giant", I already feel like I can't breathe and my ribs are super sore if I'm not constantly laying reclined back slightly.

Anybody else have this problem so soon? Are there any stretches or anything you do to help relieve the pressure?

  • I don't know your height but I am short and I've gained about 10-15 lbs and I'm 17+3! Mostly in my breasts as well. I was a FF pre pregnancy so yeah you can only imagine now! I have a lot of back pain already and my bump is huge (this is my first). Like I mentioned I think it's because I'm 5'4...barely. Talk to your doctor and they will recommend stretches for you. I have an appointment with physical therapy coming up soon. Good luck!

  • Yes I'm barely 5'6, so about average but my structure is a smaller (not tiny but def not curvy) so I'm thinking the extra 10-15 I've put on so quickly has been a lot and my body is definitely not used to the boobage lol. Thank you!
  • I have a lot of rib pain coming from the underwire in my bra and my boobs getting crazy heavy! I'm not sure if that might be what's hurting you, but I refuse to go with no underwire until absolutely necessary so now I just clip it a little looser and try to pull the underwires off my ribs a few times a day.

I'm not sure that's it. Even when I don't wear a bra it still gets sore. It feels like I just did about 50 crunches the wrong way and my muscles right underneath my ribs are really sore. Different from the underwire soreness. It's the weirdest thing.
  • Oh okay! Definitely ask your doctor for stretches or positions that will help that. If you go to a gym, a trainer might be able to show you a few stretches/exercises to help strengthen/stretch those muscles to help with the soreness.
  • Um yeah - that's your ribcage stretching open to accommodate all the reorg going on in there. Had that my first time.
If you hold your arms straight up with your hands clasped over your head and breathe in as deeply as possible that may help, sometimes it did for me.
  • I don't get rib pain I'm 21 weeks but notice shortness of breath around 19 weeks but I'm only 5'0 with a noticeable bump people always tell me how miserable I'll be (which I think is very rude) when I get in my third tri. If I stuff myself it's almost like suffocating myself it is so tight inside me I cannot breath. But it kind of makes sense you have to think the baby is going to grow around your organs your womb will push up and cause your organs to shift. Check out a weekly chart of where you uterus is mine is a tad above my belly button and I can deff feel it.
