Feeding my LO is an adventure! (a little long)

My son is formula fed since he was a week old due to me getting a breast infection and having to have surgery on my breast. I feed him with the Avent bottles and he has always done good with them. The past few weeks has turned into an obstacle course when it's time to eat. He is 15 weeks and I still had him on the slow flow nipple. I'm not sure when you are supposed to increase them. He seems like he is bored. He screams when he is hungry and about an ounce into his bottle he is grabbing his bottle and shoving it out of his mouth or just not eating and getting mad. It turns into a 45 minute deal. I thought maybe I needed to increase his flow so I put a size 2 nipple and he just seems to leak it all out of his mouth! He's gaining weight so I know he's eating enough but it takes awhile to get him to finish his bottle. any tips or advice would be much appreciated!

  • Maybe he needs to burp in the middle? Dd fusses in mid feeding sometimes when she has to burp, worth a shot,

He takes a 6 ounce bottle and I normally burp him at 3 ounces. Maybe I should try to burp him sooner? He gets mad when I stop to burp him at 3 but I'd rather him burp than throw his bottle up.
  • How many times have you tried the 2? Im sure it takes getting used to...he is used to having to use enough force to get the milk ge wants and now he has to figure out how to decrease since more comes at a time. I would try for at least a few days of only the 2 and see if it improves?
  • We were having the sane problem. My LO was 5 weeks premature so I thought it was a swallowing problem and requested a speech therapy consult. She suggested we add a small amount of rice cereal to the bottle so that it is thicker and once she is used to that, slowly decrease how much we add. I started with 1 tsp per 4oz bottle and it has worked wonders!!
  • Took a few days for my little man to get used to the 2. Give it a few days and see.
