Holy contractions during MRI...

I'm just over 30 weeks and had an MRI today. From the moment we started, through the entire nearly 2 hour MRI, I had non-stop Braxton hicks contractions. Which also caused shooting pains down my back that had me in tears.

I've had Braxton hicks but none that have been nonstop like that. It also seemed weird that they started immediately with the MRI, and ended as soon as we were done. Has anyone else had an MRI this far along with pregnancy? Notice anything similar? I always wonder if all these tests and things are hurting our little guy :/

Re: Holy contractions during MRI...

  • I had an MRI of my brain at 19 weeks and didn't have any issues. Could've been that it was too early for Braxton hicks then though? I'd say ask your doctor to be sure, but my neurologist assured me several times that MRI's are not harmful to the baby. Good luck!

  • I had an MRI when I was 26 weeks pregnant and had appendicitis. I was only in there for like 15 minutes but I didn't feel them happening. I was also very nervous so I could have just not noticed them!
  • At my hospital, even though MRI does not involve radiation, we will not scan pregnant women. Something about the magnetic force and the babies' heartbeat. ???
  • I had a CT scan for possible appendicitis at 18 weeks and that's when I started to feel my uterus hardening and contracting. That very evening.
