Just wondering if anyone has tried it before? What are your thoughts? I want to give it a go and am wondering if anyone has done the online course as it is 3 hrs drive to my nearest class?
Im a FTM but I tried hypnosis for stress relief a few years back and loved it. I think I'm going to go back to the same lady and try hypnobirthing. Give it a go! They say Princess Kate did it. Good enough for royalty, good enough for me!
I did Hypnobirthing. My doula and everyone in L and D were convinced that's how I made it to 7cm dilated by the time I got to hospital and was so with it. I think in early stages I was doing great with it, especially in combo with shower, when the "pressure waves" started getting to 2-3 min apart, it got hairy and I think I lost myself a bit there. My doula said that when I was in pushing I must have done it without knowing because, in the resting periods in between pushes I was totally relaxed and out of it. I hope to try again with it this time and really focus better. I did have an unmedicated birth and I think 50% was Hypnobirthing, and the other 50% was sheer will, plus I was so dehydrated they couldn't get a line in me. I look back now and think I could do better, and really utilize my doula and the techniques. I really think going to a class in person is important. You can def study material online and books, but you may want to try and get 1 session with a hypnotherapist. And having a doula well versed can capitalize what you have learned as well, while you are in labor. It's a very positive vision for birthing, that's why I liked it. Everything is very positive, even using terms like pressure waves instead of contractions...after my long story, I recommend!
I'm lurking from Feb16. To give context, I had 3 failed epidurals with my first birth. That was my reasoning for planning to go unmedicated with #2, otherwise I'm not a very "crunchy" person. I chose hypnobabies (which I personally have found recommended more highly than other hypnobirthing methods) because I typically want to be alone and quiet when I am sick, in pain, stressed, etc. I felt like this method worked very well with my personality!
My labor started at 8am on the 4th of July. We spent most of the day at a family picnic, which was just fine in the early stages. In the evening, I was mostly alone in the tub at home. We got to the hospital at 10pm, I was at a 5, still very comfortable. Once admitted, I got right into the tub again, and was comfortable until about 1:30am when I wanted to be checked because it was getting so intense - I was at a 9, and was pushing in a few minutes. Baby came 20 minutes later! So for me, I would say I was comfortable for all but the last half hour, which is WAAAAAAY better than I did with my first (I had asked for my epidural at 4cm). I wish I could say I was comfortable and pain-free the whole time, but the last half hour was tough for me in all honesty. Nevertheless, I'm pregnant with #3 and planning to use it again! Good luck.
