So. Much. Pain.

I am almost 35 weeks and am in so much pain. My back and stomach hurt. It feels like cramps. They started 2 weeks ago. It's a constant pain. Not contracting. Although I have uncomfortable braxton hicks as well. After 6 hours, I called the nurse on call and was sent to labor and delivery. I was fine and not dilated. Since then it has come and gone, but comes more and more frequently. It will last more than 24 hours at times. I can only lay in bed with a heating pad. I saw my doctor Thursday who said this is pelvic pain and it's completely normal and there is not much I can do for the pain. That was so discouraging! Is anyone else dealing with this? Will I basically spend the next month in bed? This is my second pregnancy and I never experienced this last time.

  • Oh man, I am so sorry!! I definitely have become more sore and achy lately (not to mention I have NO energy!), but nothing as severe as what you are describing. It sounds like you are doing everything right - especially with keeping in touch with your doctor and going in to the hospital when you think you need to. Keep it up and don't be afraid to keep callin them if it continues. Rest up, mama - you are doing a great job!! I hope you feel better soon!!!
  • I am so sorry you are going through this but honestly it makes me feel better that I am not the only one feeling bad right now. I have been having horrible pelvic pain on top of Braxton hicks on and off.
  • I really appreciate this feedback and to know I'm not alone.
  • When my back and sore stomach pains start acting up the only thing that really helps is laying on my side.
This pregnancy I've tried pregnant yoga stretches (I have a 15min video) and even though I'm not consistent at all, I've found it really helps. My pain isn't nearly as bad as it was last time.

  • Oh, I feel ya! The last two days everything hurts! I'm hoping it won't last until I meet this baby... Roughly 4 weeks unless he comes early. I don't remember it being this bad with my other three... Maybe it's because I'm older!

I wondered if it was because I'm a few years older this time too. :)
  • It's been on and off for me the last few weeks (I'm 36 weeks now). Some days have been really awful. I'm also going with the "it's helping us get over the fear of labor by making anything seem better than continuing to go on like this" theory. :)
  • Do you have access to a pool? I have had major round ligament and crotch pain since about week 20. I have been going to physical therapy. My therapy takes place in a pool. Just some walking, light stretches, and small kicks. I cannot tell you how much better I feel when I'm in the pool. I go from crying and barely being able to walk to dancing and having a kick line in the pool. The water takes all the weight and pressure away!
  • Pool is a great idea just don't over due it, sometimes I stretch too much and I get even more sore after getting out and tensing back up.

Unless the doc says to stay in bed I would really avoid it. I personally feel worse when joints and muscles aren't moved for a while.
  • The pool does feel awesome! At least until I get out and all my weight hits me at once lol. I have noticed though the days I go to the pool and am active I feel a million times better than the days I stay in bed. We have a pool and a hot tub at our gym so I swim while my husband works out. If I get to chilly in the pool I get in the hot tub for a little bit (not to long) and loosen my joints and relax then I go back to the pool and cool off and stretch and do back strokes. It really loosens me up.
  • I'm totally with you! I'm not sure if my pain has a similar cause as yours, but I get excruciating pain in my belly. They determined it's nerve pain from my skin stretching faster than my nerves can keep up. I still have another 4 weeks to go, but I'm kind of praying this little guy comes around 37 weeks. I'm convinced he's bigger than I am already!

Laying down is also the only way the pain goes away, and they said it will persist possibly even into post delivery. Talk about disheartening! Especially since I run a retail store full time, so I'm always on my feet.

Hang in there, mama. You're not alone. We're almost there, right?? Gosh I hope so!!
  • I do have a pool membership, but I also have a 3-year-old. On weekends, my husband helps with him, but during the week it's an effort to take him there. It does help some. I agree. I still hurt while lying down. Just a little less. I hurt all night while sleeping. Glad to hear others are experiencing this. I guess it is in the realm of normal.
  • I am 37 weeks and I am having the same and it is horrible my midwife said it was early labour, she said to wait till my plug or waters go
  • I feel ya, I had a chronic pain condition before pregnancy and it's only gotten worse the bigger I've gotten (nerve damage in my abdomen from previous surgeries, fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis). The nerve pain in my abdomen is just below my ribs so you can imagine how painful that is with baby kicking that area from the inside. Even on my pain medication I'm miserable. Plus the normal pregnancy aches and pains and SPD I've had with my last 3 pregnancies.

Yesterday the pain was so bad I kept vomiting and felt like I was gonna pass out. I just keep telling myself that I've made it 38 weeks so I can push through for 2-3 more!

  • Interesting. Thanks for the input from your midwife.
  • I hear ya! I wasn't in pain like this the last time around until the last 2 weeks I was pregnant. We'll see how much longer he stays in there. I have all the wonderful BH pain and the pressure, but on top of it I have this horrible pain in my lady bits. From looking around on the internet it sounds like the pelvic pain from my hips separating unevenly. OY! It just seems to get worse every day and I wonder how much longer I can tolerate it. I have an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday and I am going to talk to him about it. I hope there is something I can do to reduce the pain because it can get really intense.  Either way only a month to go! I am ready for him to get here. See this little stink that is making me so uncomfortable.

I have the same-- 39 weeks tomorrow. But I'm also getting really sick (bathroom probs!)... I can't tell if the cramps are making me go, or if I'm sick... even a little nauseous now. It's been 2 weeks of this. I'm 2cm dilated and 80% effaced (as of last Thursday). I have no idea if I have ever had Braxton hicks or contractions. But just feels like the WORST period in the world. Doctor just said my cervix is ripening and getting ready :(

Also just got severe back pain as of lately. Had no back pain the entire pregnancy... I guess I am overdue with some discomfort.
