Let's rant about our bosses!

Anybody else having problems with their bosses/coworkers since becoming pregnant?

Mine is being ridiculous! The other day I told my boss I needed to sit down because I was feeling dizzy and out of breath. Her response? "You're pregnant, not crippled." What?! She also continues to schedule me 10 and a half hour shifts, despite the fact that I've expressed to her how exhausted and sometimes sick this pregnancy is making me feel. I'm certainly not expecting to be put on a pedestal or anything, but come on, be humane woman!

Oh, and one more thing. As soon as I told my boss about my pregnancy, she felt the need to share the news with an assistant who's first response was, "Oh, so was this planned or an accident?" Like, seriously?!

People can really say some stupid things sometimes!! Anybody else have any stories to contribute?

  • My office is moving to another town at the end of Jan and it will double my commute. Im pursuing other opportunities within the company but my boss is being shady, with holding information and i think trying to corner me into taking a less than attractive offer. I just want to know what im going to do for a job after maternity leave and im stressing feeling my boss does not have my best interest at heart. . I hate dirtbags

I work in a school as a behavioral therapist with children that have autism. I have had one classroom with 7 students since I began working there, ages 6 to 9. I enjoy my room a lot, despite it being difficult and at times aggressive. Today, I brought a child to the bathroom and as I am telling him to pull up his pants, my supervisor walks into the bathroom and tells me that come September when we get back from our two week break that began today, I'll be switching rooms to be with kids aged 9-12... and then just walked away.

    So professional.

@aporcelainface I also work at a school for students with autism. In 2014, I was behavioral support, while pregnant with my son. I get it, I was totally in the line of fire. But as soon as it came out that I was pregnant (like the last week of school), my assistant principal told me I wasn't allowed around students! I fought with the union and my doctors to let me stay the last week and a whopping month of this past school year before ending up on leave.
Now, here I am going into the school year pregnant again. I'm no longer behavioral support, but I'm still a classroom parapro. I'm already getting put on probation due to my absences from last year (duh? I wasn't given an option while pregnant, then I came back with ZERO absences with a newborn!). I'm super anxious about the start of this school year and whether or not I'll even have a job once they see that I'm pregnant and will absolutely need absences again...
    Rant over. For now...
  • I feel for all of you ladies and I'm sorry for what each of you is going through! Pregnancy should be a time of celebration, you shouldn't have to worry about job security! I get that there is a business to run, but I really wish more companies these days understood family values.
  • Mine is more my coordinator than my boss. I'm a home care nurse, and when I found out I was pregnant with twins I let my boss and coordinator know that I might have to have more days off and might have to decline some shifts (my job is such that I should in theory be able to work as much or as little as I want).

At the beginning of the summer, my coordinator gave me the ol' "of course! We'll accommodate your appointments and not fill up your schedule too much, don't worry!" So what's been happening is I just get shifts added to my schedule without her asking (not standard practice at my job), probably because if she doesn't ask first I can't decline.

And so I've had to call her a few times and get her to give it to someone else because I have an appointment or something that day - and I get "*sigh* ok, fine."

Maybe if you didn't fill up my week with shifts I wouldn't have to book so many off! And unfortunately I have one of those jobs where I can't sneak out for an appointment - I basically need the entire day off.

Sorry for the long rant. I'm so bitter.
  • I feel you guys on this! When I told my boss I was pregnant he told me that he would be happy to work out time off for Dr apts and needing to work remote. My Dr is in CT and I work in New York so this helped a lot to be able to work remote and go to Dr apts on lunch or take a half day to make my apts.

I had a trip to Hawaii planned for almost a year for a good friends wedding, which my boss knew about.

When I returned for work my boss pulled me into the office and said "he had no choice but to let me go". He said that from my vacation I used two more days than I had currently accrued. He knew how much vacation time I had before leaving and how long I was going to be gone for and said nothing.

So here I am 19 weeks pregnant and unemployed. Glad my husband has a great job but we were definitely counting on two salaries in our budgeting for this little miracle.
  • @amberjinnett That's so shitty! It also sounds like what he did was totally shady, almost like he was just looking for an excuse to let you go.
  • @Theliops I completely agree. They paid me much less than they should have on one of my big commissions than what I earned, in which I have been escalating...but that's MY money that I earned I wasnt going to just walk away from it. So I'm sure that probably played a part of it as well... It's a pretty small company and they aren't use to people standing up to them when they are wrong/shady.
  • Ok PP who got fired takes the cake. And honestly I would look into a claim against your boss and company because pregnant people are somewhat protected from BS like that you would just have to choose to consult an attorney.
A week or so ago my boss out of no where said, you couldn't possibly take off 12 weeks YOU'D have huge piles when you came back!
..... In my head in like, wow he's gonna be pissed when he finally decides to ASK me how long I'll be off, and I tell him 12 weeks. And def not my problem if you aren't going to cover my position while I'm gone.
  • My boss can be a real ass sometimes.
    I should mention I'm self employed. :))
  • But really sorry for all of you dealing with crappy bosses!!!!!
