Random rants

I was at my FILs last night and everyone was in the garage eating pizza. I walked in and my {step} MIL yells out, "anyone wanna give their chair to the fat lady?" Really!? She said it twice just to make sure everyone heard her. Why do people think it's ok to say pretty much whatever they want to a pregnant woman? As if I'm not self conscious enough right now...

Rant away.

  • That's SO mean!

  • Eh I'd laugh it off. I mean I guess only you know if it was mean-spirited and I agree jokes about a woman's body are in bad taste in general. But I don't see letting it get to you so bad you need to "rant."
  • I definitely get it. My mom thinks it's a great time to be saying how huge I look and my MIL likes to say how my BF has been telling her how bitchy and tired I've been. I've been trying my best to look good, keep a positive attitude, and then they say that.
  • People think they are trying to be funny. My friend's dad called us the fat ladies all the time when we were pregnant and he's usually a super nice guy.

I think it's pretty effin' stupid to ever thing it's ok to comment on a woman's weight/size, why would it be any different during pregnancy!

  • That's so rude!! I probably would've been a bitch and said something like "you already have a chair" but hormones have made me mean so I wouldn't listen to me lol
  • Ew, how rude!!! Even if meant in a not "mean" way, it certainly isn't nice or kind!! I would have about faced and probably started crying in the bathroom. This pregnancy has really been an eye opening experience to how common teasing and sarcasm are to show "affection". It is pushing me to be more aware of how I might act similarly and show kindness rather than tease when I am trying to show affection to those around me.
  • My FIL does stuff like that all the time. He did it to my SIL, too. I choose to take it as a compliment, because he wouldn't use the word "fat" if I truly were fat, because that would be mean (and he really isn't a mean guy). May be faulty reasoning but I don't care, lol.

  • People say things without thinking. It's so rude and as if your not uncomfortable enough when people say things like that it only makes you feel worse.
  • Even if she wasn't intentionally being mean, I don't really see how that could be considered funny or amusing in any situation.
