Huggies Wipes

I don't know if this has been discussed on here, but on facebook I've seen a few videos of mom's complaining about how their babies and kids get rashes so easy and that they use Huggies wipes but will now be switching because they found glass shards and fiber glass in the wipes! I just wanted to make everyone aware of this info and to look it up for sure!
Just my opinion, but I will be using Pampers.

I had heard that, haven't seen a recall yet. I use huggies naturals because I like the cloth-like texture. They are similar to Costco's except we don't have one of those around us. I hate how pampers feel slimy. Yuck!

I'm a ftm, so i will probably use a variety of different kinds until i find what I like, diaper wise I'll probably go with Pampers.

Did they ever specify in the original video which ones the woman was having issue with? She showed two different bags and then a on the go container. But I don't remember specifics.

Yeah, i saw one video that she used 3 different packs and they each had glass in them. And then a completely different video with a different lady who just had an on the go pack for her example in the video, she opened it brand new and they had glass in them too. I'll go look at that video real fast and let you know her specific kind of huggies wipes.

Sigh... As if this whole "mom process" isn't stressful enough with decision making. I'm going to get a bidet installed in baby's nursery. Just kidding... But it really is upsetting.

I've always used Huggies wipes and this sucks! After much trial and error I ended up loving Huggies. @achae I also hate the sliminess of pampers. They are also not a thick. But I will say one thing, I use them on my face sometimes to remove my makeup and I remember a few times, my eyelids felt scratched up and they would be red and swollen for a few hours later, that's why I stopped. But, I'd thought I was just me because I have very sensitive skin.

Edit to add: DUDES! It's true! I just pulled out my Huggies wipes and tried what I saw on the video and I see it too.

I'm off to the store to buy different wipes. This sucks!

What did they do in the video that proved there is glass in the wipes?

We just switched to huggies in the last month or two because pampers were giving dd a rash

I saw a lot of people say it's crystallization, not glass. FTM so i've never bought them or know much about wipes but i'm skeptical about these things until it's 100% proven it is indeed glass.

It's not glass. There's an update to the story if you google. The person who originally posted the video said it wasn't glass, just that it just looked like glass. Huggies said it was shiny fibers.

She was picking the pieces off and rolling in her fingers... I don't guess that really proves anything. Just her word against others I guess.

Huggies released a statement saying that it happens sometimes during the process. It's fibers sometimes take on a shiny and glass is no used in making of their wipes.

I was wondering too how they knew it was fiber glass.. I always use huggies but the sensitive kind and haven't seen any shiny ones yet.

They put it under a lamp, or light from the window to see the sparkly in them and then would pick it off. Glass or not, it still scratches and itches.

I feel like there is no way they would actually put glass or fiberglass in their product. I mean, corporate America can be evil sometimes, but I still hold out hope that there is some good in the world. It seems like maybe it is what other people said... that its just some sort of crystallization.

Either way, I'll probably end up going with some natural brand because we don't really like to use stuff with chemicals. Hubs has eczema and I have super sensitive skin so LO will prob inherit that too.

I haven't heard of that. But I personally dislike their wipes. They did make my children break out in diaper rashes.

I don't really trust anything I see in a random video online. I generally just wait until the company makes a statement, because there have already been so many hoaxes! Also I just generally buy whatever I grab at the store for my little guy. A wipe is a wipe as far as I'm concerned, but I only wipe after poop (not just pee). So far that strategy has been working really well and he basically only gets a rash when he's sick or teething.

I've heard it, and Huggies has come out saying they won't be recalling because it's not glass it's some sort of fiber that can sometimes occur during production because of the crystals used to preserve the wipes or something like that. I don't use Huggies wipes because they rip too easily and who has time for poo on your hands?!? Pampers have always been our go to.

Yeah, apparently, someone I know, knows one girl who started this whole dilemma. She said that it's a hoax, that the girl has been talking about wanting to sue Huggies for a very long time. I think a journalist actually made the video viral and she is mad because she is busted and can't sue. Huggies asked her respestedly to send in samples but she refused and apparently she has never even used Huggies wipes, she just bought them to stir the pot. Wow!

One thing you learn when you become a parent is that people looooove to find problems with their baby products and try to make them go viral on social media. I am very very careful about what I believe and share with my friends. Of course there are times when products do have problems and need to be recalled, and companies are great about issuing recalls because that covers them legally.

So I wouldn't worry too much about this kind of stuff in general- check your products and then wait for official statements. I have seen stuff go around about several brands of disposable diapers causing chemical burns- often the exact same text but with different brands- but to my knowledge there haven't been any recalls for that reason in the last few years.

Another thing to know about recalls is that you should read the reason for recall in full before sharing/declaring you will never use a product again. Especially with equipment like strollers and carseats, companies often have a small number of complaints about something and issue a recall that just says, "Email us and we'll mail you ______ to fix it." and the issue won't be life-threatening. For example, last year Graco was replacing clips on their car seats because IF food got in them they weren't latching properly. People started freaking out and buying new car seats and it really wasn't necessary. You could get a replacement clip sent and in the meantime, they advised you to just double check that the latch was clicking shut every time you used it.

Moral of the story: be a smart consumer!

I only wipe after poop too! DD is very sensitive and will get a rash if you wipe her too much.
I use pampers sensitives and never had a problem

I've used Huggies wipes with both kids and will with this baby unless something valid comes out showing they aren't safe. We've never had issues in any way. We love Pampers diapers but their wipes are very thin.

I am a Huggies lover all the way. These crazy videos do absolutely nothing to deter me from using this brand. I think I would know if I were wiping my sons butt, face, hands, nose... etc with wipes made with particulates of glass. People can be so crazy sometimes!

Huggies has said that it's probably a reaction to an ingredient causing the issue. When I was a kid, I could use any bubble bath except Mr. Bubbles. I think it's the same with these wipes; it's just some ingredient that some children react to.
