NOT A GENDER REVEAL, "Gender reveal"?

Hello everyone!! As a new FTM, I'm clearly now addicted to YouTube lol all baby related etc... Anyway, is anyone doing anything creative & special for just their immediate family to announce the sex? It's literally just going to be us and both sets of parents later in the night after hubby & I find out alone in the morning at the A/S. Anything different, yet thoughtful (aside from the usual balloons in a box, cake cutting, or silly string spraying)? Maybe a special poem, or appropriate pink/blue firework to set off? Something DIFFERENT from what you see 99% of other ppl do. We like different :-) I think it's an interesting idea, for us "no gender reveal party" people ;) Share your thoughts or ideas if you'd like!!!

Re: NOT A GENDER REVEAL, "Gender reveal"?

  • If you're artsy, draw a picture/paint a painting of your family-to-be? My husband is an artist and drew a super cute cartoon of us and the baby, and we just showed our close family.
For my close friends, I painted out "g-i-r-l" on my nails after I got a manicure. We all went out one night, so it was perfect timing to tell them all at once and fun to see who noticed first.

I was considering an idea I got from etsy - make a scratch off gender reveal card. You can google how to make it yourself if you don't want to buy anything. Here's a link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/229075927/10-baby-gender-reveal-scratch-off-cards?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=scratch gender reveal&ref=sr_gallery_2

  • You could do something sentimental like put a copy of the ultrasound scan in a frame and gift it to them. Or even get the video of the scan and spend some extra money to put it on digital frames
  • @mandijane423 aww that's a cute idea!! We still have 10 days to think about it, so I'm just mulling it over :-) we love unique things (even if they're corny or silly)...of course at the end of the day, it's not even about how we share or what the news is. We're so excited no matter what!! First time parents joy over here!!! :)

My husband made a little movie to show our family and friends. We used our car and dog too.
  • Aww, making a movie sounds like a sweet & sentimental idea. Something to show the family and also to keep & share with our child in the future!!
  • We did the scratchers for my family. We always get each other scratchers for holidays and birthdays. Pretty easy to make and they were fun. We made all of them winners of a free diaper change and only one with a free ticket which was the one with the gender.
  • We are super nerds and our announcement was gamer themed. So for the gender reveal we are making a video with an old chest of mine. When we open it red balloons with our favorite girl character on them will come out and we are adding in the zelda chest opening noise. We are both going to dress like adventurers.
  • I just saw a cute one the other day, the mom/dad dressed in white and had people spray them with water guns filled with pink or blue. It was cute and made a great video/picture!

@kaylab3910 I love the idea of a video! So cute!

  • We just bought a girly pacy (it said daddy's girl on it) and my hubby had it hidden in his pocket until we were ready to tell.

  • With our first we got pink and blue jelly bellys and put them in a baby food jar with a note that said "some are pink some are blue, whichever there is more of is your clue" and they had to count the jelly beans to find out. With this one we ordered scratch off lottery tickets from etsy. Our family lives on the east coast while were on the west so it was just something fun for them. Everybody else got a Facebook post.
  • What about a short scavenger hunt around the house. A treasure box at the end can be filled with pink or blue m&ms. Would be fun to watch/film the grandmas running like crazy to solve the clues and find out the news.

  • Oohhhh. ...love love LOVE the jellybean & scavenger hunt ideas!!!!! Those seem very sweet & original
  • One of my co workers gave the great idea of scratch off cards! I made some today for my co workers and friends that won't be at our gender reveal. They were very easy and cheap to make and they all got to guess before scratching it off!
  • I saw these cute little riddles.. It took me a minute to understand it, but The answer is reading the first letter of every sentence. Then they'll get if its a boy or girl..
  • We had our dr write it down instead of telling us at the appointment. Then we went to party city and had them fill black balloons with confetti in which ever gender color it was. We popped them with our family so it was a surprise to us as well and someone could take pictures of our reactions.
  • We are big softball/baseball people and this was ours. It's turned out perfectly!!!
  • I think we may do the jellybeans of both colors as mentioned above by @aphilli8 :-) and possibly set off a few pink or blue fireworks after to celebrate!!! :-)
  • I just found out the sex on this pass Monday. So on the way home I stop at Target and bought a baby outfit the color of the gender and had my sons and husband open the present. I recorded there reaction and Afterwards I text the video to my family.
  • After the anatomy scan you guys could go buy a few cute gender specific outfits and clothes pin them to a piece of twine to make a small "banner" out them and you could hang it up in what would be the nursery and let them all go into the room and find out what it will be? Thought that was a cute idea. We just recently bought a house so we're having a family based "housewarming party" and made a small side note that we'll also share the gender of our baby. We aren't into gender reveal parties so I'm thinking about doing the onesie banner idea in the nursery or just make some cupcakes with pink or blue filling inside and hand them out to everyone for a simple way for them to find out. We will be finding out at the ultrasound for sure.
