Hospital visit last night - Advice please

Hi Ladies,
Last night I went to the hospital because of severe cramping. The pain would come and go. They put me on the monitors and I was in fact having contractions. They gave me fluids through an IV and it took a few hours for the contractions to stop. After lots of fluids and contractions stopping, I was sent home this morning. They checked my cervix and it looked fine. I drink tons of water on a normal basis but today in particular I have been drinking as much as possible. The cramping is now starting to come back and I'm not sure what I should do. I hope it's just all normal, but my first time mommy anxiety is in full effect. Is anyone else going through something similar?

*adding that the doctor did tell me that I have adhesions from past abdominal surgery. Perhaps that could be causing this pain?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

  • I'm sorry you went through that, but I'm glad they were able to stop them! If it's the same cramping you had yesterday I would go just to be safe.

  • I'm sorry this is happening to you and that I can't be really helpful. Does your OB have an on call number? I suggest using it, stating your concerns and going from there.

  • I'm not a medical professional, but your adhesions from a past abdominal surgery could be a likely cause. Did you mention it to the doctor that you saw last night? Is there a doctor on call at your OB'S office that you can contact? Sorry you are having a hard time and hope you feel better soon.

  • The doctor last night mentioned the adhesions to me. Thanks so much ladies! I did call the OB's line. She said to give it a little longer and continue with lots of water.
  • I went to the hospital 2 days ago because I started having contractions and they gave me fluids through an IV too. They told me to monitor my contractions and if they started coming in a pattern like every 20 minutes to go back to the hospital. So maybe you should just take notes on when your pain is coming on
  • I'm so sorry you are going through this and that you are in pain. I don't have any advice but am glad you are in touch with your doctor. You will be in my thoughts tonight.
  • I'm so sorry this is happening. Glad you are in touch with your OB. And don't hesitate to be "that" pregnant lady and go back if things progress. Keep us updated
  • Very sorry for what you're going through. If they didn't tell you that they were Braxton Hicks then you should definitely continue to be in touch with your OB and don't be afraid to be "that" lady. Better safe than sorry.
  • Like @BostonBaby1 said, don't be afraid to speak up. I'm finding out that some doctors tend to blow things off. You have to be pro-active about your own health and your baby. I wouldn't hesitate to go to L&D if having contractions this early.
