Clammy skin + SIDS

LO has been clammy all day. She's just been in a onesie, is cool to the touch and temp is normal. But her forehead and head are not just sweaty but clammy. Of course I googled it and a million things came up about SIDS and clammy skin being a sign of a heart defect...so of course I'm glued to the baby monitor and am nervous. Anyone else with a clammy baby that can talk me off this ledge?

Re: Clammy skin + SIDS

  • Those search results sound scary. I hope others have an easy explanation of what it could be because I hate to think of you worried all night! I can't say I wouldn't do the same, but I'd also definitely remind myself that when I google symptoms for myself, WebMD and similar sites are quick to "diagnose" the worst case scenario (Ex: a cough = cancer). I would love on her tonight and go to your doctor to get some peace of mind as soon as possible.

  • My kid is constantly clammy. He takes after me - it's embarrassing. He's been clammy daily since he was a week old. I have SIDS fears, and you may recall I started a thread on it. But a) it's really very rare, b) you can further reduce the very rare risk by keeping her on her back, use a fan, and keep her room cooler, and c) the very rare risk is a bit higher for boys than girls.

Talk yourself down. Cool her down, then keep an eye on her and have a glass of wine. No doubt she's fine, but calling the doctor tomorrow could give you peace of mind. Xo
  • My girl is pretty clammy too. I've checked her temp a couple times bc of it. It's pretty humid here, so I'm thinking that may be part of it.
  • My girl is always clammy too I didn't think anything of it ...just that she runs higher temp than normal...her daddy is always clammy too but now you've got me thinking :/
  • I have a little guy that is often clammy too... No indications of heart troubles or any other health concerns.

Another poster mentioned angel care monitors and Snuza. I went and bought the Snuza Go as I was having trouble sleeping worrying about the potential that something would happen and I wouldn't wake up or even have the chance to know something was going wrong. Especially as some of the literature suggests the risk increases between 2-6 months.

The peace of mind that it gives me is awesome. I highly recommend it - and in Canada it's $100.00 best money I have ever spent on baby stuff.

My daughter is always clamy. However, I know she doesn't have a heart condition because she did have a murmur (it's gone now) so we went to the children's hospital (we live by one of the top rated in the world) when she was 3 days old for a echocardiogram and she's perfect! So that's not necessarily true! :) stop googling!! Haha
  • ^^^^ ditto! Mine little guy is always clammy and no heart defect other than a slight murmur. Echo done as well.
  • Lurking from july... My little guy was like this his first week just while he was eating and we took him to his doctor and got sent to get an echo. Everything is fine, just listen to those mommy instincts! Or it may just give you peace of mind to call your doctor and take him in. That's what they're there for:)
  • 2 frequently clammy kids here. Both are breathing. I just checked after reading this ;). Put down the goggle.
