Changes for baby .

My LO is about to be 3 weeks old in a few days and I know it's time to start changing things up but as a FTM I want to make sure I'm doing everything at the right times and not to soon .

His 1 month appt is in about 3 weeks so it's a ways away and I will be asking the pedi some questions she will know more about to be sure but what are some things I can start doing now ? As in feedings- can I start feeding him more? And how much is ok for a 3 week old ? Does the whole just don't feed 4oz at once still stand ? Because I know he can drink a while 4oz if I let him .
Sleeping schedules - he has day and night mixed up , we been working on it but what are some of your ways of getting them out of this confusion? And how do you start a new sleeping schedule, what's the longest you can let them sleep for ?
Are there any other changes I should be making ?

Re: Changes for baby .

  • For the day/night: try to have consistent morning and nighttime routines. For example, I always get baby changed and dressed for the day in the morning and open the curtains so natural light comes in. At night it's often bath, pjs, story, lullaby and prayer.

  • I agree with PP. We never had a blackout curtain so that some light comes in and helps LOs pick up circadian rhythms. LO is still young enough that it's really normal and common to be up every 2 hours in the night and seem like they're reverse cycling when really they're just a hungry newborn. I'd be more likely to worry about that if they were 3 months. The routine is always a good idea. The rest of the questions for feeding amounts and length of sleep, I would go with your pedis advice. Good luck!
