Oversupply on one side?

I'm 11 days pp with baby #2 and never had this issue with my first. I'm not engorged, but my milk flow on my right side is way too fast for my LO. He is really fussy for the first few mins nursing that side & a few times after eating, he's even spewed tons of milk (I'm assuming from swallowing too much air). I talked to my MW and got some good tips for getting it under control. My question for the BDTD moms is how long did it take for your supply to even out?

Re: Oversupply on one side?

  • I have oversupply and OA letdown on my right side only - I'm 7 weeks today and it has just started to even out after doing block feeding - but you def don't want to try that until your supply is established - it's a rough road but you kinda have to wait it out - my LO seems to be able to keep up with the pace of the fast let down now too and better than the early days . Try ice on your boob and pressure on top of boob while nursing. Also try to pull LO off before your let down ( if you cN feel it) and let letdown go into a burp bib then latch her back on. Frustrating problem hang in there !

  • Oh and another tip is lean back while nursing so LO is not underneath your boob but on top of it so it's not like a fire hose shooting down her throat but more like a fountain :-)
  • I read that a majority of women produce more on the right than on the left in general. I usually get at least an oz more on the right when I pump.
  • 4 months! It took 4 months for my oversupply to regulate with DS1.
  • Thanks for the info @nemRN! I'm hoping we can get him more comfortable with it soon! I will def be trying these. @charmon816 I've heard that too! Weird!
  • @jesicabrennan really?? Omg good for you for sticking it out!! Good to know it could take that long.... I can mentally prepare myself!
