Confused

Ok so spoke with other mummy's and they tried explain what the first feelings of movement feel like they have used phrases like "fish" "popping popcorn" "butterflies" and I for the life of my can not imagine what these would feel like started to get worried that I won't reconise when my baby moves and if I don't reconise how will I know they are moving correctly or enough ftm if u can't tell lol

Re: Confused

  • Give it time, eventually baby will be kicking ur ribs and you will KNOW for sure when it's baby moving. :)
Don't rush love. It'll happen when u least expect it.

  • I think alot of us worry we wont feel it, i hadn't given it too much thought because at 10+2 i expect any detectable movement will be a good 6ish weeks away, however reading alot of ladies post here about feeling things around this time, has made me worry a bit that i will miss it when it starts (dont worry science people i realise that these people as most likely just reporting their gas issues). I am ftm also, im sure when it happens for us there will be no doubt what it is, and i dont think baby moving "enough" is really a thing until 20+ weeks when im sure it would be totally obvious its baby movements!
  • And by the end I'm sure we will be asking baby not to move so much lol
  • You'll be able to tell. It's still awhile away, so try not to stress about it yet. The first movements I felt I thought it was like someone lightly flicking you inside your belly, so everyone describes/feels it a little differently! When you first feel it it will probably be when you are lying down on the couch or in bed or something so you can really pay attention to it, since it's so light

  • With DS I began suspecting I was feeling movement around 20 weeks, but knew for sure it was the baby around 22 weeks. The average woman recognizes movement between 16 and 25 weeks. Ftm Usually dont recognize the movement until 20-25 weeks, not because they aren't feeling it, but because it takes some practice discerning those flutters from other body functions. Everything I've read says some second time moms may recognize the baby as early as 13 weeks. I have had a few flutters at 12 weeks that have felt similar to baby flutters, but at this point it is impossible to tell. All that being said, don't worry, eventually the baby moves beyond flutters to rolls, kicks and jabs, then their is no mistaking the movement.
  • As a ftm you won't feel it as early as mothers with subsequent pregnancies only because you've never felt it before :) like the pp said though, you will know when you do. And yes, at some point or another, you will be begging baby to quit kicking your ribs, bladder, etc. lol

  • Also, you don't have to worry about kick counts or making sure your baby is moving daily until the third trimester, and you'll know by then what your baby moving feels like. You'll feel the baby moving very intermittently, maybe every few days, at first.

First time I felt DS move was somewhere around 18 weeks. It felt like a flutter. Gentle, light, kind of like gas moving in your bowls but not as intense. And the first time I felt it, I was sitting at my desk after lunch and just happened to notice it, and was like, "Was that the baby or my stomach?" It took awhile to be able to tell the difference, but eventually the flutter turned into something closer to bumps, and then by the end I was getting kicked in the ribs daily.

  • It's okay if you don't recognize it at first! You will eventually. I first recognized DD's movement around 16 weeks, but realized I had been feeling the same thing for a few days before I knew it for what it was: hiccups. She had hiccups practically every day from the moment I could feel them until birth. And a few months after lol

My 4th constantly got the hiccups in the last month or so of pregnancy. It always made me giggle. Even now when he gets them (he's 2) I just have to smile. :)
