Amber teething necklace

I know it's a bit early to be thinking about teething, but I'm sure it will sneak up on me. Does anybody have experience with the Amber necklaces for babies to help with the side effects of teething?

Re: Amber teething necklace

  • My only experience is a child who came into the ER after nearly strangling themselves during nap time. They got their hand inside of the necklace and twisted cutting off their breathing. Super scary and totally scared me away from ever using.

  • Some people swear by them, but there's no real scientific data backing up the use of amber necklaces. That, plus the strangling risk PP mentioned is totally not worth it in my opinion.
  • I'm honestly appalled that anyone would leave a necklace on an unsupervised baby. I understand during a photo shoot or something. I thought all teething necklaces were for the moms to wear!

  • My son started wearing one when he was first teething (6 teeth at once!) and still wears it now (age 2), we only taking off for baths. He's now getting second molars and it's the first time I've had to give him Tylenol occasionally for the pain since we got the necklace! I think it really helps.
  • Choking & strangulation hazard, I personally would look into something else. They make great necklaces for mom to wear for teething baby.
  • I also thought the necklaces were for moms to wear...which I don't like because the thought of wearing baby drool around my neck seems somewhat unsanitary.
  • My nephew has one that he wears all the time. I have personally seen the effects of the amber necklace and I think they are amazing. We watched him over night a few times and every time we took the necklace off at night (I was afraid of the strangling when I wasn't right there) and in the morning/next day he would drool all over the place. When he was wearing the necklace and every other time I see him he has absolutely no drool or pain. I think the necklace works, and am looking into getting one soon for my baby girl. I am pro Amber necklace. I also wonder if you could turn it into a bracelet or anklet at night so they can't strangle??
  • I've read a lot of reviews where people use them as anklets. I'll probably go that route if I decide to get one
  • What is an amber necklace & how exactly does it work??
  • There's not enough money in the world to get me to put a necklace around the neck of my baby. Will absolutely not be using one, for safety reasons.
  • There is no evidence that the necklace does what it is purported to do, which is excrete pain relieving natural salicylate transdermally through baby's skin. It is more placebo for parent. Stick to teethers and Tylenol!

    Being in healthcare nothing shocks me but seriously. Some parents...smh. they are lucky they made it to the ER.
  • @jessshrou please tell me what "smh" means? I have been wondering!! I see it on Facebook too :-??

    "Smh" = shakes my head
  • As some pp have mentioned there is no actual evidence that they work. I have no intention of using one, especially due to the risk to baby
