August 2015 Moms

I feel...when breastfeeding.

Granted I've only been BF for 2 1/2 days...but sometimes when Sawyer is latched really well and sucking hard I get really lightheaded and feel like I can fall asleep instantly. I've even had to shake myself awake sometimes. It's like milk drunk reversed. Not sure if it's BF related or just my body getting used to my new sleep cycle. Anyone else experience this or other strange BF side-effects?

  • It makes me feel euphoric!
  • Loading the player...
  • Could be the oxytocin BF causes to release...relaxes you and baby!!
  • I second the rusty blades. I told my mom today that whoever said breast feeding didn't hurt is a liar! This is my third baby and there is always an adjustment to your nipples getting used that much as well as the latch adjustment period. Ugh, I will power through!

  • The initial latch hurts like hell! I'll probably need to visit the lactation consultant soon. But other than that bf is very satisfying. But it's also very tough!!!
  • I used to nod off all the time in the beginning lol! Now three weeks later I find I am doing that much less frequently. Hang in there mama! :)

  • Hungry! It never hurts me though.
  • @kettlekitten I hate you for making me lol so hard my incision started to burn!
  • I love breast feeding! Just the first 30 seconds of baby latching on always makes me wince and painfully laugh out loud.... But I rather experience those 30 seconds versus the pins and needles feeling I get when I need to pump or nurse ASAP!!
  • Thirsty and happy!
  • I only BFed for 10 days but I was exactly the same. It gave me contractions and made me instantly very sleepy. I was always thirsty as well.
  • I nodded off bfing my last one very frequently.  I think its the bonding, relax feeling that occurs, then there is always the fact that we are sleep deprived too!

  • Oh yes rusty blades! At least for the first minute before that gets better. And I get super thirsty just before I need to feed her.
I find myself nodding off during half of our feeding sessions. I've actually fallen asleep nursing her before!

  • ...like screaming for the first minute after she latches. YES to the rusty blades! I usually count to 30 to myself to power through it. Three weeks in and I thought I'd be past this.

My armpits sometimes itch when I pump. It's totally a thing!
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one that has pain that first minute! We are nearly two weeks in and I'm surprised at the letdown. Also, I wonder to myself are my boobs always going to feel like they are on fire? My kids will try and hug me and I'm like noooooooo.
  • I actually got my baby to latch 2xs today and it made me feel awesome. Initial "ouch" but then it's good after the initial latch. The pump hurts me more. If it wasn't for lanolin, my nipples would be cracked and bleeding. I can't wait till this struggle of getting her to latch is over

Hooray for a good latch... I can't wait to get to this point. I BFed my first baby til 20 months so I honestly didn't think it would be this hard or this painful again!!
