head is "deeply engaged"

I saw my midwife today and she felt for his head, seemed very happy and said he is "deeply engaged". I asked what that meant and she just said that he wont be flipping over likely and he fits in my pelvis nicely.. is this normal for 33 weeks? I didn't realize there was measurements for it (1/5-5/5) otherwise i would have been interested in asking. Done some googleing. Does this mean he has dropped? I havent noticed much change...

Re: head is "deeply engaged"

  • I'd say that's a good thing. Mine couldn't really tell where the head was yesterday. I'm 30 weeks and will get a flash ultrasound at 34 weeks to determine if baby is head down.

  • At my last appointment I was 30 weeks and she told me he is head down and really low ! So I'm going to assume it's normal !
  • Yep..normal and great news. My appointment was Monday 30w 1d,little guy was head down, butt up lol
  • Definitely good news!
  • I had my 30 week this week and my dr said the same thing! Head down and snug enough that she doesn't think he/she will be moving out of that position! Which I think is crazy early but I guess it's normal!
  • That's really great! At this point baby probably won't move. You might feel baby drop later or maybe they already have. Mine drops every time I walk more than around the house (I.e. Shopping or exercise. Not comfy hahaha)
  • Oh, and by "baby won't move," I mean that they'll probably stay head down. Obviously you'll still be getting kicks and everything ;)

I had an ultrasound at 29 weeks and the tech said baby's head was buried pretty low. I don't know if she's dropped yet but I've been carrying pretty low this whole time. I have a long waist but when I feel her move its always below my belly button.
  • I went at 31 wks for an ultrasound tech said baby turned & dropped I asked my doctor what that means he said he thinks I will have baby at 38 wks.
  • Me too!! I'm with my first baby and at my 28 week appt. (I'm 31 weeks now) the ultrasound tech said his head is in my pelvic bone.
  • It's a good thing. Other than the pressure. You should ask about the position. Is baby posterior or anterior?
