Baby shower venue ideas?

My (almost) MIL is throwing me and my fiance a co-ed baby shower at the end of September/early October and she just informed us that the venue she had planned on using wanted way more than we could justify spending for the amount of guests we are having AND they don't allow alcohol. Since its a co-ed shower and I'm not personally a fan of drinking anyway I'm all for DF and the guys kicking back and having a few beers but now we have to figure out a new venue! I estimate about 25 people who will attend.

Where are you having your baby shower? Where are some cool places you've attended baby showers at? I'm open to any suggestions.

I've honestly only been to maybe 3 baby showers in my life (I don't have many female friends lol) and they were always at someone's house but we don't have a whole lot of room so I feel like it would be cramped to have that many people here.

Re: Baby shower venue ideas?

  • Only been to showers at someone's house, whether a friend or a family member's shower.

  • I've only ever been to baby showers in people's homes as well. Is there anyone you know who could host it who has a bit more room? the only other thing I can think of is the back room at a local restaurant ... but I've never had to consider anything besides a house before.
  • I wanted to have my shower at a restaurant. Buuuut my mom isn't willing to spend the money. So we are having it at a park by my house. The park has a brand new "lodge" for these type of events.

Same here! But DF's mother seems pretty against having it at her house even though she does have more space than us. She hasn't even brought that up as a possible option lol. She was going to pay the ridiculous price for the previous venue until she found out they wouldn't allow alcohol.

  • My friends are throwing my shower at my house. They are "hosting," i'm just providing the space. It's central to everyone and large enough to accomodate. Have you thought about that?

I definitely wouldn't mind having it at our house I mean hey, we aren't having to bring all of the gifts back to our house from somewhere else so it just makes things easier for us. We live in a townhouse so we don't have a huge amount of space in our living room or kitchen. I did suggest possibly doing it indoors/outdoors at our house. Since we are in NC we should have perfect mild weather around that time, we could set up some additional tables/chairs outside on our patio and in our yard and maybe cornhole or something of that sort for the guys and just leave our sliding glass door open so the spaces are connected. I think we could make that work if DF's mother is open to the idea.
  • I've been to a shower at a small conference type room in a hotel. It was cozy and I believe decently prized. I've also been to one at a park with an enclosed area for parties and events. Also nice.
  • Is there a neighborhood/community clubhouse available? I know our neighborhood has one for people to rent for parties (it's part of the pool house), and a lot of apartment/condo communities have really nice spaces to reserve.

  • I've only been to a baby shower at someone's house one time. Where I am from most baby showers are in halls and community centers. Maybe that will be more suitable for you.

  • I've only been to a couple of baby showers, but using the American Legion is always a go-to where I live. Mine costs 75 bucks, you can decorate it anyway you want, they have a kitchen you can use, and there is a bar so people can buy drinks if they want more than what you offer. Do you have a legion or VFW where you live?
  • I was going to say a club house as well like PP said, unless there isn't one. Do any of your guests have a place similar to a club house you can rent out for the day? The last baby shower I went to was like that and it was actually really fun. Plenty of space for guests, games, food and a table for gifts. There was also a pool but I'm not sure if that's something you'd like, or maybe for the guys?
  • We are having ours in an elementary school gym. My mother works at the school so it's a free venue, yay! I have honestly never been to a baby shower in a home. Most showers here are in the gyms, town halls, community centers, or old historic buildings. Those are really the only options in this small town. My wedding shower was at a restaurant and it was perfect. Could you rent out a room of a restaurant? It might be cheaper to rent the room and supply the drinks and food rather than them catering. Good luck in your search!
  • I've been to one in a friend's home, one in a church, and another in a restaurant 'party' space.

  • If you can't find an indoor venue, you could try a shelter at a park. Have outdoor games and typically alcohol is allowed - this all given you live where the weather would allow it.

You could also check about private rooms at local restaurants.
  • We are having ours a a local winery/restaurant that also have a massive outdoor area with two outside cafe style areas, playground for kids etc. no venue hire, but if you order platters before hand they reserve seating for you.
  • Church venues, small local restaurants, and community halls are popular where I'm from. One was at a small winery which I LOVED. Though I felt bad the mom to be couldn't drink lol. I've actually never been to one at a house so I'm surprised at how popular they are! That seems much easier.
  • Oh yeah, park is a good idea!
