Just thought I'd share my l&d experience. Had an appt on 8/18 at 40& 2, got membranes stripped and got induction scheduled for the following week in case DD still hadn't arrived. Was seriously hoping I didn't have to be induced, and I lucked out in that department!
Tuesday night I started contracting, but after a few hours they stopped, and I was so disappointed. I got a couple hours of sleep, then woke up with contractions again on 8/19 that were strong but irregular. I went ahead and called my Midwife's office to see if I should head to l&d since I was already at 5 cm, and was told to go in.
Got to triage, was sent to walk around for about 45 minutes, and progressed to 6 cm and got admitted. Had planned to try a med free delivery, also got to use a device called the Relaxabirth that my hospital is involved in a clinical research project on. I got to 8 1/2 and water still hadn't broken and I started asking for an epidural because I really didn't feel I could make it. My midwife encouraged me to stick with it and broke my water for me, then shit got wayyy too real. I'm so glad I stuck with my plan for a natural birth but I can honestly say it was physically the hardest thing I've ever done. I even ended up with no tearing this time, which is a huge bonus! My dear husband was so supportive of me, and he's usually kind of "gruff and tough" so it was amazing to have him as my pillar through this experience. We are all doing well, DS is a proud big brother. I wish all the rest of you Mamas all the best! Love our birth month board, it's been a great trip!
