Trouble drinking water?

I'm really trying to drink water but I'm having a hard time! In the morning it makes me kind of nauseaus and I have to constantly sip throughout the day. If I am super thirsty and drink too much at once, I get reflux easily! Any helpful hints? I of course try to drink with food...

Re: Trouble drinking water?

  • I can't drink a lot in the morning, but make up for it in the afternoon. Try adding lemon or lime, sparkling water, and/or increasing your intake of fruits/veggies with high water content.

  • Pregnancy book says to drink a table spoon every 10-15 minutes when you're having major issues keeping anything down including liquids.

If you can't keep anything down for longer than a day I would call your doctor you may need an iv
  • I don't know if this would help at all but have you tried changing the temperature of the water? Like hot tea vs iced etc? Otherwise I sometimes use those flavor packets to help.
  • I couldn't keep water down a few weeks ago and my DR said to try Gatorade or watered down Gatorade too.
  • I had a similar problem during the first tri. My doctor recommended Popsicles or Gatorade.

  • I've had this problem with this pregnancy, even though I don't remember it with my first too kids. I don't have a solution. I also just drink tiny sips until evening. It isn't tolerable for me until after dinner, unfortunately. I should say, it's gotten much better since week 14. In the past week or so, I've been able to drink it even though it still sounds terrible.

  • I'm having this issue too.  I can't drink water first thing in the morning or before I eat because it makes me gag/vomit/nauseous.  I try to drink it throughout the day but I, too, have horrible reflux with it! I'm so thirsty that I've been drinking gatorade, milk, juice, etc just to keep up my fluids.  I'm terrified of becoming dehydrated.

  • Definitely try the Gatorade. I lived off of the glacier blue one for about two weeks. Now (14+3) I can't get enough water! If you can't stomach liquids, try watermelon.
  • I agree with the Gatorade. I've barely been able to drink water since getting pregnant, I'm 13+5 and that's all I can really drink.
  • Add lemon! Best thing I've ever done to water. I HATE water. But every morning I've been squeezing half a lemon in big cup of water and then just refilling water over that same lemon all day. Taste just just lemonade. I love it now.
  • I'm kind of in the same boat--I just don't like drinking water.  It doesn't make me sick or anything, I just don't like it!  But, what I noticed with me is I drink a lot more if it's from a straw! weird I know!  So, I went to Target and got a big water bottle with a straw.  Now, I'm drinking a lot of water!  I still don't like it--but it's easier to get the desired amount quickly!

  • I've always loved water, when not pregnant that's pretty much all I drink. I have had a really hard time drinking it since becoming pregnant though, so I also drank gatorade or added lemon - I've even made some fruit infused waters overnight (there was a thread on this awhile back where ppl added recipes if you're interested, search for it!) lately it's been getting slightly better but mostly I just force myself to drink it when I don't want to, even though that sucks to do.

This is really strange but I had a harder time drinking it from a plastic cup/water bottle so I brought an actual glass from home to work with me and it seems to keep the water colder, longer and helps a little bit. The colder/more ice, the better for me.

  • I drink a ton of water anyway and the only thing I've been able to really drink while pregnant has been water but I needed some flavor a few weeks ago and H picked up some Crystal Light for me.

    Maybe try something like that?

I do find that I need it to be cold or have lots of ice lately though. I bought a 52oz Bubba keg and it keeps ice in it the majority of my workday.
  • Definitely try the Gatorade. I lived off of the glacier blue one for about two weeks. Now (14+3) I can't get enough water! If you can't stomach liquids, try watermelon.

This is a really good alternative! And now I want some watermelon mmmm.
  • I've had a weird issue all pregnancy where my normal water from the Brita nauseates me, even after my morning sickness is mostly done.  I've found success with adding a ton of ice, adding lemon or lime or even buying bottled water and putting it in the freezer until it's really cold.  No idea if any of that would help you too, but hopefully!  :)  Good luck!
  • If you do go for Gatorade, try to water it down as far as you can. It's loaded with sugar!

I've also done orange juice mixed with sparkling water, which is pretty good and helps change things up a little. I have a friend that likes LaCroix, but I've never tried it.

  • @achae I ate an entire container of watermelon in like 5 minutes yesterday. Put a little salt on it and chowed down!! Kroger has THE best watermelon! I'm too lazy to cut up my own lol
