FTM -Mommy weight loss and nutrition advice??

hi Ladies! For so long we talked about what we were gaining. Well I'm ready to start shedding this remaining baby weight!
I gained 32 pounds during pregnancy and am 6 weeks PP. I am pretty fit, worked out as best I could through pregnancy and have started light workouts already.
I am pumping and formula feeding. I only pump average 4-5 ounces a day unfortunately due to issues.

I have been eating clean and try to watch my nutrition for severa weeks now, but the scale doesn't move. I still have 15 pounds to lose and have been at that point for almost 4 weeks.

Anyone have issues or advice on nutritional needs or why the weight isn't coming off??

I appreciate it!

  • I gained 40 and have 15 to lose at 5 weeks PP. I've hit a plateau also eating healthy and exercising the best I can. It's frustrating for sure! I signed up for weigh watchers yesterday to get these last pounds off. They have an option for breastfeeding moms and an option for breastfeeding/supplementing moms. My SIL did WW for her baby weight and she said the pounds flew off so we shall see!

  • I gained 40 lbs and these last 10 have been hanging around for the last 4 weeks or so. :-/ so frustrating. I also am conscious of what I eat. I use my fitness pal ap, which has worked for me before but I think it's the lack of sleep thing....i seem to have more weight loss success when I'm well rested....going to need to figure out a way around that. I'm also interested in any tips!
  • I'm doing Shakeology and trying to eat clean. No exercise yet as I'm only 3 weeks pp. But I plan on picking up a Beachbody program when I'm cleared.

  • I have read numerous places that it is normal to keep the last 10-15lbs until you quit breastfeeding.

I've heard that's a myth. No way I'm keeping these extra 15 pounds!

  • Yes @runswithscissors86 I have read and heard the exact same thing. So I am just prepared for that
  • I stayed within the recommended weight gain my OB set at the beginning of pregnancy gaining 34 lbs. I've lost 20 lbs at 3 weeks pp. I'm ready to start exercising again, but not pushing it until cleared, of course. So just continuing to eat healthy and watch what I eat. I went for a walk the other day with LO in his stroller. We didn't even make it a complete block and he was crying... So I booked it home. That night, I felt some throbbing and soreness at my perineum... So definitely not completely healed yet! Since I'm exclusively pumping, I guess the 10-15 lb rule applies to me too so I'm not too worried about it at this point.

    But good luck to all!

  • I am doing Atkins until I am cleared for exercise from dr. When I am cleared I will do treadmill and Zumba. It worked very well with my DS1. I gained 60lbs and still have 20lbs to lose I am 7 week pp.
  • I gained 28lbs, I have between 7 and 10 lbs to go yet and will be 4 weeks PP thursday. I'm EBF but had never heard of the 10-15lb thing until here? At any rate...I've been back to walking since 2 weeks PP (c section) and have been increasing my time slowly, up to 30 min yesterday pushing a double stroller. Hope to be back to jogging by week 5 or 6. Also had diastasis recti and have been doing my approved abdominal and breathing exercises to improve that. Not dieting as I am EBF and don't want to cut calories or food groups for babes sake.
  • I'm doing Shakeology and trying to eat clean. No exercise yet as I'm only 3 weeks pp. But I plan on picking up a Beachbody program when I'm cleared.

Does anyone know of shakeology is safe for ebf?
  • I am 3 weeks post partum tomorrow, I gained 30 pounds and have lost 20. I've been at the same weight for the last week, and I am formula feeding. Right now I'm not doing anything besides short walks with the kids and kegels.

My goals after my post partum appointment are to step up the walks either to twice a day or longer distance plus try to overhaul my eating habits, which are pretty junky.
  • Lifestyle :) Im eating healthy, trying to get as much rest as I can and also pampering still ;) it might be silly, but it's hard to keep up with a baby and LIFE being exhausted and not having me time :) it's not much haha but it's something. It also helps me be healthier. I also work out with the baby and also on my own when there is time. With the baby...well you can be creative with it. I mix games and workouts with her and then when she sleeps I do ballet beauty and tapout. Good luck ladies!
  • I gained the same amount and also have 15 left to lose. My pp appt got cancelled due to my dr being sick so I gotta wait a few more days to be cleared for exercise.
And I've been eating pretty crappy
  • Has anyone put weight on with EBF?

I'm down to pre preg weight... But my body composition has changed. I feel I lost my muscle tone and it's been replaced with fat and cellulite. So the scales show I'm down but my body is bigger, if you know what I mean. Anyone else?

    Also anyone following IIFYM?
  • @clairelange me 100% I do not have the same body and never will. My fat is in different places and I jiggle more than I used to. I actually have an ass now which I will take! :) but oh ya not the same body for this girl.
  • @clairelange I've noticed a shift in where I carry my weight. And UGH cellulite. I had a little pre pregnancy but it could be covered by shorts and now it's further down my thighs. :-q
  • @ashleytiff @lovermyboys - ugghhhhh indeed!! It's funny as so many of my friends are like "I'm back to pre preg weight".... Me too but I'm a hell of a lot bigger! There's love handles all over me!
  • @clairelange absolutely!!! This is my 2nd baby in a year and a half...after my first I lost the weight quickly and was back in my prepregnancy clothes asap. With this one, these last 10 lbs are hanging on and although I can fit in some of my clothes, my weight distribution has shifted for sure. I lost my butt, thighs got bigger, and love handles appeared :( I'm hopeful that once I return to working out regularly I can get my booty back, my runners thighs back and get rid of this tire around my middle!!!!
  • Seriously what is with the thighs! Mine are so huge and jiggly! Don't even get me started about the cellulite I will for sure not be wearing shorts anymore this summer.
  • I'm doing Shakeology and trying to eat clean. No exercise yet as I'm only 3 weeks pp. But I plan on picking up a Beachbody program when I'm cleared.

Does anyone know of shakeology is safe for ebf?
I am a Beachbody coach, and yes, Shakeology is safe for breastfeeding, as well as for children.

  • I gained 40 and I have 2 left to go to be pre pregnancy and just got cleared Monday to do more. I'm already overweight so it will be challenging bit hubby is my partner in this and we plan to eat better, we were eating well just not as good as we could be. And we plan to exercise, I'm starting with walking with baby till I'm down a bit more.

I gained 35 pounds and 10 days PP I had 13 to go, I'm 1 month postpartum right now and I'm already starting to use some of my skinny jeans. I haven't started working out yet but what I've been doing is: I replaced my breakfast for a vegetable juice and twice I week I have a strawberry smoothie with coconut milk instead of the juice and I track my calorie intake with MyFitnessPal app, you can add breastfeeding as an excersice or a food (both partial or EBF). I haven't been on a scale but because I'm wearing about 60% of my pre pregnancy clothes I'm sure I've lost at least 6 pounds. I also try to go out for a walk everyday.
