Labor and delivery fears

One of my biggest fears is pooping while I am pushing. My cousin told me her story about pooping on the doctor while she was pushing. Everyone says I'm not even gonna care and maybe I won't. But sitting here thinking about it, it really worries me. Lol.
What strange and odd fears do you have about it?

It's not that bad. I freaked out for a second like omg I just pooped!! Then they took care of it and you go back to trying to get that baby out. I had the fear too and I now realize that it is just something that happens. Don't stress too much about it:)

I told DH that I might poop and if I did he was to take it to his grave. I have no idea if I did or not. I've assisted labors before where the mom did, the doctors and nurses don't freak out or in my experience even say anything.

The only reason I knew I pooped was because I had a huge mirror to watch baby come out. The nurse would wipe it up really fast, no one in the room watching even noticed.

It's really not a big deal at all. It sometimes happens. There's nothing you can do about it. Don't spend time worrying about things that you can't help or change. ; )

It really isn't a big deal but I did freak a bit when I did with my first (the only time I know I did). The doc said it was good because it meant I was pushing correctly.

I would hope no doctor or nurse would even say anything to you. I know I did and I just pretended not to notice since no one else even flinched about it. With my 2nd in the water ... you know when a fish net comes out something happened so i just joked about it. Honestly no one cares. It is not something anyone WANTS to do - but no one cares.

I've had BAD diarrhea so I'm terrified to poop on my doctor because it will be everywhere!!

Pooping in front of the doctor doesn't scare me, it's the fact my husband will be there to see it that makes me cringe. If I let out super loud gas I'm gonna be so embarrassed lol

You won't be the first, or the last, to do it. It comes with the territory. Honestly they clean it up so quickly and discreetly (they're ready for it) that you may not even notice that it has happened at all!

Assisting as a nursing student, I remember being puzzled by smelling poop-then noticed my preceptor discreetly folding and replacing blue pads under the Mom. No one would have had any idea if it weren't for the smell-and no one says anything because it's the last thing anyone's thinking about. You're very focused by that point-so you probably won't even know if you do!

Haha, oh honey, your husband is going to see, hear, and smell a lot more than just a little toot from you!

Maybe you girls will give birth with more grace than I did with my first, but don't even worry about what your husbands will think. They are going to be so amazed that your body was able to grow and give birth to their child. They will also probably be so overwhelmed at the entire birth process that they will barely notice a little bowel movement on the table. Previous posters are right, the nurses clean it up very quickly and don't make a big deal of it.

I'm sure in the moment I'm not going to care, but just thinking about it is quite embarrassing lol in 7 years he's never heard me pass gas or anything like that so it'll be an interesting experience for sure!

I've heard a statistic that 75% of women poop while giving birth. It's pretty normal.

My biggest fear is getting an epidural. This is baby #3 for me and I can handle pretty much everything except for that crunching sound the epi makes and the months of residual numbness when I bend over to shave my legs. Trying natural this time.

I'm scared about the entire labor and delivery process....having the contractions and pushing this little baby out of my va jay jay....I've been over here slightly stressed but I will just take everything one moment at a time.

Planning to go natural...maybe I'll feel if I poo this time! Lol! My DH never told me if I did before..but I can tell you he privately cracks jokes with me about pregnancy sleeping gas...apparently I toot A LOT while pregnant and asleep @-) hahah! My biggest fear (which I haven't ever admitted to anyone) this time is not getting to be the first to hold baby...my dd1 I got immediately put on my chest (pure bliss), DS got whisked away bc of meconium and DH got to hold him first...I felt like my heart was ripped away by not getting to see every little detail first.

I have to add: if you do poo when pushing it is a LITTLE bit. You're not going to have a seven-inch poo. It's usually a tiny bit and wiped away quick.

My biggest fear is my DH passing out during my c section! He doesn't do well with blood so this should be an interesting experience!

I think my pregnancy book may be outdated so I'm not sure if they do this anymore, but it mentioned asking your doctor for an enema to clear yourself out and make pushing easier. I'm a first timer here so I'm not sure if this is something they still do.

I'm not a fan of the how they squish your stomach right after birth to get everything to shrink and deliver the placenta! My belly is sensitive to the ultrasound sound wand! I'm terrified of it all really especially getting indices and it causing issues or getting a c section!!! I feel very overwhelmed by so many things. I'm having a hard time rationalizing anything these days.

For a couple of my births my body cleaned itself out naturally even before birth. I had such bad diarrhea that pretty sure there was nothing left in my system for anything to slip out during during labor. I've always heard that's a sign of your body getting ready for birth.

I'm scared of the pain of labor and delivery given my Incredibly low pain tolerance... I know I'm going to get an epidural but I'm worried about that also.. I'm 38 weeks and while I'm more excited, my anxiety is also the highest it's been!

Im worried that baby wont flip head down (transverse right now at almost 35 weeks) and that ill have to have a c section

I'm also scared of the poop. It's a legit fear!

I'm scared of not going into labor on my ownn and having another c section and recovering with a toddler.

This is the dumbest one but I also think people judge my grooming skills and they'll be on show for the world to see. I can hardly get a razor down there let alone do a nice, neat job. I'm afraid I look like a used sod farm.

This! And I have some razor burn down there due to my terrible attempts. Anyone have some great recommendations on how to treat/avoid that?? It's not a dull razor issue.

I'm afraid my epidural will only work on half of me . I have scoliosis ands was told the first time around that it may only work on half. It worked fully but still . I guess some is better than none haha

I have cervical issues (took 2 surgeries plus treatments to get pregnant) so I'm scared I won't dilate and will have to get a c section. I'm not scared of the c section, I just love the experience after natural child birth for the mom vs the c section. I feel like moms miss so much when they have c section!

I'm scared something will happen and I'll need a C section. I've never had any type of surgery so the thought of being cut open terrifies me. Plus all of the risks that come along with it.

I am afraid it will be a long labor and I will end up with a c section! I am afraid of being induced. I am afraid of pooping during the delivery and Just the whole process really. I am nervous about the pain but I have had kidney stones and am told labor isn't any worse than that so that eases my mind a little.

Honestly my fear is a labor fear. Like I wont realize I'm in labor and not make it to the hospital in time because of traffic or something and baby girl comes right in the car!

My fear is that my boyfriend won't be able to handle even being in the room. He already told me that there's no way he's looking down there while baby is being pushed out and he has no desire to cut the umbilical cord. It makes me a little sad and I hope he ends up changing his mind.
Another fear is being in labor over like 16 hours. I know as a FTM it's quite possible but I really just want it to be fast.

I literally cried during last week's maternity class because I am so nervous for delivery. The whole process of the unknown is really making me crazy. You have no idea how long the pain will last, even though I am getting an epidural, the prelabor before you can get an epi and then the process of the epidural, and then having no clue how long until you will have to push.

Then if there is any case of a c section, that is a whole other bag of nerves!

I did hear that 90% of women poop during labor, but the nurses are pros at just whisking it away so no one knows. I am sure at that point I will not care and just be ready to get that baby out!

There is no going back now

They no longer give enemas or shave you, but they did long ago. However, your body will purge most of what's in your tract in the day/hours before birth usually. You'll have loose stools before and during labor so there's not much that comes out when you deliver. However, it really isn't a big deal. They wipe it up quickly and you keep going. DH stayed up behind me (I was leaning on him) so he was none the wiser and we both like it that way so we'll probably do the same this time. Your nurses do not care. They see it every day.
