February 2016 Moms

How far along...?

So, according to LMP, I am 13w3d, but based on size of baby I am 12w4d. The doctor I see doesn't change your due date unless it is more than a 7 day difference, so my due date is staying at Feb 21st. I never know how far along to say I am! Is anyone else having this problem? Which one do I go with?

Re: How far along...?

  • I go by my EDD. My dating scan pushed me back 3 days, but since the dr. didn't change the EDD because it was less than a week, I just stayed at the original one based off LMP.

  • I'd just pick one for a mental target. Baby will come when it wants to anyway. My cycles were irregular so we can't use that as a reference for due date. LMP puts due date at Jan 11, but scan size puts me at Jan 22. I'm going with Jan 22 mentally, but who knows :)
  • I would go by the lmp because size of baby can fluctuate over the course of pregnancy.
  • We've been going by lmp. My first scan baby was off by 3 days I think, but dr kept it the same. Honestly I think it's pretty easy for them to make an error on measurements at this stage. Baby is so little a mm can be a day change.
  • According to my LMP, I'm due Feb 16. According to the dating u/s, I'm due Feb 21. I still say Feb 16 just because it's only an estimate anyways. Most people know not to expect that as anything set in stone.

  • Lmp put me at 2/12 but baby measured put me at 2/23. I was a week late last time so I would just go with the later date and maybe you'll have baby somewhere in the middle? I have a very irregular period so I figured safer to go with edd

  • Because we know my ovulation date (infertility treatments) my doc based my edd off of that instead of my lmp. If we went off lmp my Edd would be in jan instead of feb.
  • Even though the difference in my dating scan was only 3 days based on my LMP, I've been going by the later date. I figure that's better when I get down to the end and baby could be a few days late.

Also, it's a lot more fun telling people my due date is Valentine's Day. ;)

  • LMP puts my EDD at 2/3/15 but an early scan changed my EDD to 2/17. I knew my dates were off or something was wonky because I couldn't turn a test positive until 2 weeks past my "missed period".

If it's less than a week off I'd just stick with your original EDD.

I would pick the earlier one to have less of a count down! Size of my baby pushed me ahead two weeks into January but I'm still staying here. Baby will come when it wants!

Go with the EDD your doc is sticking to. It makes the most sense I think. My nurse always confirms, "Okay, looks like you'll be 14 weeks on Monday!" or whatever every time I come in for an appointment. I wouldn't want to have to mentally calculate every time, I'd rather just know one date.

  • I first measured about 3 days behind my LMP, and then at my next scan I measured about 3 days ahead (making me slightly further along than I'd thought).  But I checked with the doctor, and according to them, my due date is still based on my LMP, so that's what I go off of.  I would go off whatever your doctor's office has you at on record.

  • Pick the later due date for your mental well being. It will help you in the end. :-)

Yeah this is what I do so I am mentally prepared when I go past the earlier due date
  • With DD they changed my edd like 4 times but in the end it was back to the original one. With this one during first US the techs first measurement put me a week behind but then she measured from a different angle a couple more times and the EDD was exactly what we thought.
So like previous posters said just go with what the doctor says plus babies rarely arrive on their due date anyways
  • My son was 8 days late. I hate due dates because they're more general ideas and might have contributed to my panic attack at the end. I agree that if you want to pick one, pick the latter date. But if you are always going to go by baby size, you'll likely be changing it frequently because I don't think my son ever matched a due date perfectly for any of his ultrasounds. So make one up inbetween or something. It's not like there is actual pregnancy police who will hold you to a date.

  • According to my LMP I'm due 2/5. According, to my dating U/S I'm due 2/2. I've been saying my due date is 2/2, but when I went to the doctor on Friday she said they kept my date at 2/5. It's only three days difference, but it sure felt nice having my weeks change every Tuesday. I should probably go by them changing every Friday now! So really ill just be hitting 16 weeks tomorrow when I could already be 16+3!
  • You should stick with your LMP date as I am assuming the doctor is keeping that as well. Just keep in mind that when your due date approaches, you have a good chance of going past it. Take those last few days to pamper yourself.

I had the exact same set of dates! My doctor uses Feb 16 so that's what I've been sticking with.
  • I just say beginning of Feb. Idk why people ask specific questions. I hate when people ask how many weeks I am? Like why do you need to know every little detail of my pregnancy? The baby will come in Feb.

  • The more I think about this the more confused I am. Why would you not go by what your doc says? It's just like @AggieKim said, it never matches up perfectly. My due date is 2.1, the last few times we've gone in he/she has measured a few days ahead, but in a few months he/she may be a few days behind... it's not precise. Just stick with whatever your doctor's office is going with. I'm not going to tell people I'm due Jan 23 one week and then the next be like, "Just kidding, I'm due Feb 5th."

Haha, I agree. I always just say "February."
  • I'm "due" on Valentine's Day. So I just say that. And then get the awwwwwhhhhh that's so sweet!!
I dislike Valentine's Day. It's not "sweet" to me lol. But if LO is born on 2/14, it will give me a reason to celebrate 2/14. Not VDay. I love celebrating dates!
  • Yeah, I guess I've been hesitant to think I've almost 14 weeks because I'm going to be too hopeful that the morning sickness will go away! So in my head it's been better to think I'm only 12.5 weeks. Once the morning sickness is gone, I'll go with the doctor's date haha

I think the novelty of a Valentine's Day baby quickly wears off when you think about how it must feel to share that day with your birthday. My birthday is a week after Valentine's Day and it sucks enough. DH feels really rushed between the two days and I kind of feel like I get short changed on both days. It's kind of hard to explain without sounding greedy lol
  • @ashton2190 my best friend was born on Christmas Day. It sucks so bad cuz she wants to celebrate her day, but it obviously gets overshadowed. I know what you mean! You want your own day, damnit! Boyfriend knows I prefer not to celebrate VDay but if LO is born on that day he best be bringing me some flowers.... Or some really good food at least! Lol
  • @dragonfly321 I love my birthday. I mean love it. I'm actually a little sad I need to share my birthday month with someone else now because it'll never be the same lol DH said it would be funny if LO was born on my birthday and I just looked at him like this -_-

I always hated my Vday Bday bc all of the other girls got chocolates and flowers and balloons on my birthday. My DH makes it really special now and makes up for all of those awkward middle school and high school birthdays!
