Pelvic bone...stop it!

I'm a makeup artist so my job requires me to be on my feet for a while, which I'm used to and okay with. I've learned my limits so I made sure I took breaks in between and when I needed today. However, the pain in my pelvic bone is so much more intense after working today than it has been lately. I feel like my bone is being cracked open every time I take a step.
Trying to put pants on nearly brought me to tears & I have, what I think, is a fairly high tolerance for pain. I know certain pains & discomforts are expected during pregnant but this is a little much.
Not sure if I should be concerned or is it fairly normal at 33w 6d.

Is it sciatic pain, like sharp shooting pains?  I had the physical therapist at work stretch mine out and it helped, and she told me probably some of the way I sit/stand/sleep is contributing to it.  I am on my feet for most of my 12 hour shifts, and if I'm not walking around a lot of times I am shifted onto my right foot (because of plantar fasciitis in my left foot...a whole other story!)  I also tend to sit with my left leg under me and sleep with one leg straight, one leg bent up.  She said all of these things contributed to my pelvic bone shifting forward because our joints are so loose.

You can probably google or youtube stretches for it.  For me, I haven't had it since I talked to her.  I've been trying very hard to keep my hips aligned when sitting/standing/sleeping to prevent it from coming back.

  • Look up pubic symphysis. Sounds like it. I have it too. Not fun, very painful. There are ways to prevent the pain a little. Good luck.
  • BTW with this, your muscles are actually stretched too much so do not stretch it will make it worse. I spoke to my doctor they recommended tylenol and a maternity belt. Swimming helps a lot. Avoid squatting, stairs, and spreading your legs apart. Doctor said it's ok to be on your feet so that's good news for you.

It's not so much a shooting pain but a really intense sore feeling. It actually feels like it's cracking lol I don't know how to describe it better. It could be the way I stand & sit. I have an appointment on Friday with my ob so I'll bring that up & see what he says.
  • Oh ok.  Hope it gets better!!
  • Try wearing a maternity support band...I had similar pain and now I just wear my lovely Gabriella support band all the time. My dr recommended it and I was like yeah yeah doubt that'll help..it totally did. Only $30 or so on amazon.

I'll try one out & see if it helps. I never think about it because I honestly don't have a big belly at all, most people don't realize I'm pregnant but I know there's still a baby there adding all kinds of pressure lol. It's worth a shot :)

Pubic symphysis dysfunction (which is what it sounds like you may be experiencing) is incredibly common in pregnancy, unfortunately. Of course I would recommend ensuring that the structure of your pelvis and spine are stable (structure helps ensure proper function) via specific chiropractic adjustments (look up someone with advanced maternal adjusting instruction/certification). It also really helps to combine that with a properly fitting support band as others have mentioned. I would personally avoid medications, even over the counter ones. My friend had this problem and I know it's intense, so I hope you get some relief soon!
