Speedboats

some friends asked us to go on a lake trip over Labor Day weekend. We've been to their place before, so I know that almost everything they do involves taking a speedboat ride there (restaurants, etc). It will obviously be choppy/rough water bc it's a holiday weekend with tons of ppl. Anyone had issues going on bumpy boat rides? At 33-34 weeks it just sounds miserable, but I'm trying to be a trooper whenever I can since I know hubby wants to go. Thanks!

Re: Speedboats

  • I wouldn't do it.  The idea of getting jostled around and bouncing hard up and down with a belly that's stretching.... no thanks.  It doesn't sound fun at all.

I don't necessarily think it sounds dangerous (assuming your speedboat driver isn't an asshat), but it sounds like the most uncomfortable thing ever.  I'd be holding on to my stomach the whole time waiting for the ride to end.

  • I agree w/ PP. As long as the driver doesn't act like an idiot it should be safe....just uncomfortable...

  • Agreed with pp's. I can't even stand bumps in the car,I couldn't imagine a boat! Youch!
  • This is our first summer without a boat and our 3rd baby. I definitely say go.

  • I am 33 weeks today and over the entire summer I have been riding in ski boats. We even braved super choppy waters to see the famous Blue Angels Air Show! While it can be mostly uncomfortable with constant choppiness, if you're prepared for it it isn't all that bad. I would say go!
  • I went on a speedboat at 30 weeks. Ocean. Very bumpy and was pretty uncomfortable. I ended up getting Braxton hicks the be two days after that one. Last time I'll do that
  • If it was a pontoon I would say definitely. A speedboat makes me a little nervous Bc depending on driver and waves could be very choppy and rough. You could get thrown around. If just a leisure ride would be fine but most people who drive speed boats I feel drive too fast for my liking.
  • I was planning on a trip next weekend and my doc advised against it, mostly because of the presence of e.coli in the lake. Boat, no biggie. Dirty water, big no no.

I have a boat but we go in The ocean, not the lake, so I can't speak to ecoli / but I have had bad morning sickness the whole pregnancy but the boat is actually 100% fine even when it's a little rough. I think the baby actually likes the motion and it calms her down and I don't feel sick. Enjoy the boat ride now while you can!!! Might be harder with an infant or 1 yr old :)
  • I live on the Mississippi but have been avoiding going on the river all summer.  It can be really choppy and don't want to ask my friends to drive slow because of me.  It's uncomfortable enough riding around in DH's truck over bumps at this point so I can't imagine being out on the river.  Plus was not wanting to risk being too hot.  I would probably do a pontoon boat but that's it.

  • As long as you can handle the bumps, I would say go! Boating with a toddler next summer will be much harder. I've been boating all summer being pregnant and with my 15 month on the boat. It makes me just want to stay home. There's no fun in it for me with the toddler!
  • I went on a boat ride 2 weeks ago. As long as the driver is courteous enough to go slow so it's not as bumpy I'd say it would be okay. my SO had to slow down for me a few times, but it was still a fun time. Don't miss out on what could be a fun weekend!
  • My dr told me to boat as much as I want. He was more concerned that I made sure to wear sunscreen and reapply often.
