Subchorionic Bleed

Hi Everyone,
I guess I'm just looking for some comfort right now. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and went for a scan today. They found a large blood sac by my uterus. I'm so upset. I've had one miscarriage and it has been a really long road for my husband and I. Has anyone had a previous pregnancy where they had this and everything ended up ok? I'm so worried I will lose this one too. On a positive note the baby had a strong heartbeat of 183 and I saw it dancing around. It was the happiest moment but now I'm crushed by this news....

Re: Subchorionic Bleed

  • Try not to worry.  I had one diagnosed around 13w with my second and he's completely healthy :) They are very common during pregnancy.  Make sure you listen to any restrictions your doctor gave you - I had to have pelvic rest for probably 4 weeks until mine cleared.  I know it can be super scary.

  • I had one at my last ultrasound as well. This is my third, but I had never heard of it before! I'm on pelvic rest until they can check it at my appointment in two weeks.

So I totally understand being nervous! My midwife was very reassuring and said they usually go away on their own, so fingers crossed that that's what happens!

  • I had one with my first and he's a healthy 8 year old. I was on pelvic rest for my first trimester until it reabsorbed.
  • Thanks everyone. It's so hard not to worry. I just feel like it's one obstacle after another. I also have thyroid issues so it's just been very stressful. Thanks for sharing your stories!!! It gives me some hope.

I had one with DS - it was discovered when I stood up to walk into another room and had a sudden gush of bright red blood followed by cramping at 8w6d pregnant. I thought for sure I was miscarrying, but nope! I had spotting off and on for eight weeks afterward, but eventually it reabsorbed and the rest of the pregnancy was uneventful. I now have a very healthy and happy 3 year old.
  • I was just going to post a similar thread. This is my third pregnancy and I have a small subchorionic hemmorhage this time. Even though my doctor has reassured me that it is nothing to worry about, I'm still worried. So glad to see other moms with the same issue who have healthy babies.
  • my OB discovered a collection of blood (assuming this is a SCH?) where the implantation occurred. It was seen on my first U/S at 6w4d. He said to expect to have some bleeding and not to worry. I have yet to have any bleeding and had another U/S yesterday at 9w2d and he said the collection is still there and has not changed in size and nothing to worry about at all. Next U/S won't be until 18 weeks. Hard not to worry even with his reassurance!
  • I have one as well. Mine is on the smaller size. Stay off google! Just stay positive and try not to worry. They may want to watch you a bit closer but from what I've heard from multiple doctors and people with experience it's common and not usually harmful. Good luck to you!

  • I had one with my LO. It was found around the same time as yours because I had a gush of bright red blood. I did have brown spotting for a few months and was on pelvic rest, but everything was fine. LO is 6 months old!

It's easier said than done, but if you have some bleeding try to take some deep breaths, know it could just be the SH, and call the OB. Good luck!

  • I had one with my last pregnancy that lasted through most of the first trimester.. it was alarming to me bc I'd sometimes have gushes of red blood.... it was very scary at the time but my pregnancy progressed normally and now I have a beautiful 2 year old! I have another one with this pregnancy although it is measuring much smaller than my first one... try to relax and not to worry.. hugs!
  • Thanks so much everyone. I've calmed down a lot since a few days ago and just praying for the best.
