People Giving Natural Induction Advice (longish rant)

Hey everyone, I've been lurking and reading since December but this is my first post! Due August 23 so I know it could be any time between now and almost 3 weeks.

One thing that I have found- not annoying- but super random and weird is complete strangers (along with everyone I know) offering me their advice about how to induce labour naturally.

From telling me to have lots of sex, eat spicy food, drink pineapple juice and raspberry leaf tea, castor oil, ankle massages.. The weirdest one yet from a stranger at the post office: walk down the block with one foot on the curb and one foot on the road, then turn around and walk with the other foot on the curb and one foot on the road.. Like, seriously lady!?

The thing is, I love being pregnant. I'm completely happy with the idea that this baby might still be in here for another 3 weeks. I don't understand why people keep telling me what I should be doing to induce labour!!! Do I look like I'm uncomfortable? I'm not.. And even if I was, how is it socially acceptable for you to be talking to me about my sex life, whether you know me or not!!!

Craziness!! Also here's my 39-ish week bump cause I just love it so much.

Haha, the walking along the curb advice is definitely a new one for me -- maybe I should try it ;) Glad you're comfy being pregnant, and wish I could say the same at this point (40w1d). I feel like people mean well but often are way too free with advice you haven't even asked for -- it's phenomenal. Today while getting a hair cut I was advised to get my feet rubbed to help bring on labor. Maybe it works -- I'll have to give it a shot. The other "natural methods" aren't working for me so far... Good luck to you in the last few weeks waiting for your LO! :)

  • We have the same due date!! My surrogate and I also receive everyday an advice on doing a natural induction ... Keep enjoying your pregnancy! :)

  • It's funny how I never realized so many people had thoughts, knowledge (ish), or opinions on naturally inducing labor until I was hugely pregnant. For me it was a WTF too. Like why do you care so much and maybe I'm fine the way I am? It doesn't bother me per say, but I find it random all the opinions. Enjoy the rest of your cute bump pregnancy!!

I don't think a foot rub alone will do the trick! My doula said though that if you apply pressure on the pressure points on the inside of your ankle 4 finger widths from the ankle bone.... lol.

    Good luck!

  • It seems like whatever someone did right before they went into labor is what will do the trick to put you into labor. One coworker told me to eat something with old bay on it and then ride on a motorcycle....haha k!

I had a stranger ask me if I had lost my mucus plug yet, uuuuuhhh excuse me? Then tell me everything I need to do to get labor going lol
  • I get annoyed with this too. Especially when people think it's OK to talk about my sex life on my Facebook. Um... I'm from Louisiana and while these Virginia girls may think it's OK to post "have lots of sex!!" "Are you having sex?!" Etc on my Facebook, I find it in poor taste. Ugh.

No random people out and about yet, just text messages and Facebook constantly .... Blah

  • Personally I find it entertaining and enjoy hearing people's stories of what got their labor started. (Minus the sex questions that's a little tmi! But let's face it, that's how I got into this situation so it's not a secret we have sex)

Last night the guy next door randomly told me eggplant parmasean from Maggiano's would do the trick. At the one in their hometown there's a whole wall of pictures of woman who ate there and then went into labor.
  • Good for you, girl! You look great! I too have been feeling really great and enjoying my LAST few days being pregnant for the first time. I cried over it the other day to DH and he totally didn't get it. He said we will have more kids and I'll be pregnant again. It's not the point. This is my first baby. This is the last time I will ever feel a lot of these "firsts". I'm not trying to rush this little girl out, when she's ready, she'll come. And then it will be a brand new adventure. But until then, we are both content.
  • I hate that everyone keeps telling me 'have lots of sex!'
Ummm it's not always that comfortable for me... And I don't need you getting into my sex life unless I'm the one to bring it up.
The walking advice I understand. But it being mid August and freaking hot as balls outside it's not that comfortable to be walking. And by the time it could down enough to walk outside the bugs eat me up like I'm the best treat they have ever had. Lol
  • Walking down the curb that way, sounds like a pelvic dysfunction waiting to happen!! OMG some ppl!
