Ans, if you have a boy and circumcise you'll need Vaseline and gauze pads. I was totally unprepared with my first. Hubby dropped us off at home and then went out to help a client before our first diaper change. Had to call SIL crying for her to go get us some! Oops.
Epsom salt is for the sitz bath. Helps your crotch heal. You don't need a special device (they sell a toilet attachment you can use), just run a shallow warm bath in your tub and add salts, then kind of squat in it or sit in it. It feels nice.
I haven't forgotten but I have been dragging my feet when it comes to getting some things like diaper cream and pads also. It still just feels so far away.
Every time I think I have my list complete I remember something else I need to get. I keep forgetting D drops. I think it's the last thing but I'm sure there's tons more I'll be sending DH out for when baby comes.
^^ yes! I have to place my order for carlsons d drops through amazon. So much easier than getting a full dropper of a vitamin supplement into an infant's mouth!
Wipes! I have set up three changing areas throughout the house, baby's room, my room, and downstairs. I only bought one container of wipes. Third time around and I am too relaxed I think.
You all just reminded me about baby vitamins. I used trivisol with my older two, is that still the recommendation?
Breastfed babies need vitamin d supplements. I didn't know that either until our first peds appt with my first. The Carlson drops are great because you put 1 drop on your nipple before nursing instead of trying to give baby a whole vial of something that tastes and smells awful.

And alcohol wipes for the cord.
Also if its a boy -- try the Vaseline in the tube! It was the best thing we had for my nephew when he was born. so much better/easier for both us and baby (you don't need to touch and rub the poor thing to put it on). I had a rough time finding it -- but Target has their brand and I grabbed a bunch of the tubes in the baby section!

At the hospital they provided us gauze pads and A&D (in place of Vaseline) for our son.

I bought Vaseline in a tube that squirts out at CVS ... our teacher in childbirth class recommended getting the tube for after circumcision because it's so easy to just squirt on vs. having to rub it on if it's in the usual tub.
According to the Mayo clinic, nothing but water...
Keep the stump clean. Parents were once instructed to swab the stump with rubbing alcohol after every diaper change. Researchers now say the stump might heal faster if left alone. If the stump becomes dirty or sticky, clean it with plain water — then dry it by holding a clean, absorbent cloth around the stump or fanning it with a piece of paper.
Apparently some studies have shown that it heals 3-4 days faster without alcohol.
Just water on the cord. Warning: it may STINK when the stump falls off. Just flush it out with warm water, mild antibacterial soap if you need to. DD's had some nasty puss-like ooze in it. She also had a granuloma which is pretty rare though so that might be why hers was so gross.

Lmao at crotch lol! But yes, that's what the Epsom salt is for.
